Pulaski County & Southwestern are getting turf.

Featured Replies

Per the Commonwealth Journal, neither of the schools have had their fields re-sodded since 2015. Tracks will both be replaced too. $3.5 million project for both fields and replacement of both tracks.

Cov Cath played at Pulaski County in the 2018 5A semifinals...that would have been the 4th season on that sod, and it was definitely a MESS by late November of 2018. I'd hate to see what it was like this past fall when the field was in its 7th season without new sod ?

For some reason, I thought SW already had turf???

Several years back Pulaski County hosted Damien Harris and Madison Southern in a playoff mud bowl as well. I can't really speak for Southwestern, but Pulaski County has been a pretty bad field about as long as I can remember.

Almost kinda like  their home field advantage during the playoffs sometimes.

John Hines can officially leave this world a happy man.

BG played there a couple times and it was a mud pit every trip!

Congrats on the upgrade!

Thing is, it’s actually a very nice setting, good bleachers, good views. The field was the only negative. And now that’s fixed. I’m happy for them!

As many schools that are getting turf seems like the better question is who doesn’t have turf.

I haven't updated my list to include changes for this season, but last season there were 139 stadiums with grass and 82 stadiums with turf. Two schools (Covington Holy Cross [Thomas More] and Newport Central Catholic [Newport] both play on turf but not at their own stadium.

As happy as I am for those communities, part of me will miss the uncertainty of teams like Bowling Green and Frederick Douglass making it out of there alive with a win.

Southwestern's turf is down and looks good.

Somerset, Pulaski and Southwestern now all have turf football fields. It looks like both PC and SW will also use the fields for soccer. Somerset has a Soccer only stadium right behind their high school.
