I don’t like talking about high school coaches on the hot seat based on W/L record like it’s college or pro coaching. In most cases, administrators look beyond record to intangibles like character development, academic success, attitudes in program, etc. Sometimes coaches feel “pressured out” by the community, but many times coaches move on believing they are not the right fit, they are personally disappointed with poor records (no one takes a job planning to lose every year), or the time is best to move on for personal/family reasons. Most firings seem to have more involved than just W/L record and rightfully so at the high school level.

That's true except for highest levels of HS football. Places like St. X, Trinity, Male, and other big programs aren't going keep a losing coach. Too much money involved. More like college in those programs. Trinity's coach will get a pass this year since first year and knew going in they would be rebuilding this year.

Not saying this was the motive for this forum, but could very easily give a voice to an angry parent/player/stakeholder to bash a coach from a very narrow perspective. I hope that doesn’t happen.

That’s a great point, as usual, TP94. I agree with that exception.

High school is also different in the fact that some school systems/administrations simply do not care about the success of their sports teams.  If their student athletes are passing their classes and you aren't having locker room issues or "problems" then they are okay with it.  Wins and losses literally don't matter.

Most KY HS football coaches are doing a super job without a lot of resources.

For me, awful tough for there to be a hot seat for a guy that doesn't have alot to work with.

I’m on the hot seat for coaching my nephews tee ball team - they expect trophies and I wasn’t able to deliver last spring.   I’d say anything less than 2nd place in the regular season and some hardware in the tourney and they are turning to the team mom.

Unfortunately I worked in an athletic department that was subjected to this from the administration.  The suits didn't care about athletics one bit, but would go hand out pizza to the marching band students at their competitions and speech & drama competitions.  When I would talk to them about the positive impact athletics had on student behavior & grades they just turned the other cheek, but would get mad at me when I would bring up someone from the band was failing every class but band. 🤷‍♂️  Some of these admins just don't want the bother, but cant see the forest for the trees.

Dang Gum!  How did I know that The Flea Market would be the one to start this thread???   Broseph do you not have anything better to do?   Sadly we live in a world where loyalty, hard work, and character are gutted yearly in the name of Wins and things that dont really matter.   Many coaches would never get in trouble or be on a "hot seat" were it not for these forums.   Sports Casters,  Sports Talk Radio cause many of these HOT SEATS in order to get ratings and get paid.   My Point is, that someone maybe doing a great job considering their circumstances and boom a thread like this starts, and some crap for brains board member, assistant principal, or athletic director looking to make a name for themselves gets the idea that maybe their coach isnt doing what they should.  This leads for the aforementioned idiot (looking to stroke their own ego) to bring down heat, pressure, and potential family problems on a man who is hired to teach school first and coach football second.   I am sure these threads are fun, but all they do is cause pain and stir the pot.....and I aint talking about a cooking pot.  I am talking about a squatting pot.....and it is my belief that whoever stirs the pot should lick the spoon.  However in the day of anonymity and keyboard experts.....those individuals dont get to be held accountable for the garbage they bring down on others.

(I have had my darker days and fed into this and was very vocal about a coach I didnt care for, and in hindsight, I would been a much better man for keeping my opinions to myself.)
