Solid game by UK, the intensity and hustle was very impressive, along with the baseline help. I agree with RP, Obrzut gave a great effort.

 

UK looked well prepared and Bradley played under control, the young guys are gaining valuable experience. Well done and nice win.

Best overall performance of the season. Kentucky played well in every phase of the game. The extra practice time really made a difference for the preparation of the game. Now the kids get a well deserved break to spend Christmas with their families. Nice job Cats.:thumb:

:thumb: Great post and observations cville. I thought this was the best performance of the year by the Cats. You are 100% correct in the extra practice time paying off. UMass was not a bad b.b. team at all, The Cats just outclassed, outplayed and OUTCOACHED them tonight. Imo Jasper had a very good game running the point and "Woo" continues to impress. I think that the butt tearing that Tubby gave Bradley helped, when he came back in he played "on fire". I also noticed Tubby praising him later - this imo is what a good coach does. Tubby tore him down and then built him back up. Overall good performance by all. Now the players can have a Christmas with their families, get back early and continue to work and improve with the "no limit" time on practice.

I think saying UK "outcoached" UMass is a bit much. UK just had WAY more talent and a deeper bench. That said the Tubster has the team putting together back-to-back strong performances which is just what we need heading into conference play next month.

 

I freely admit I am just not a Tubby guy, but I don't think he is a bad coach or anything. There are times I just wonder if he is the best fit for a program recruiting wise. With this Freshmen class he can put some of those fears to bed in my mind. I think we are heading the right direction!

Why did it take 3 1/2 seasons before we seem him play face up to the basket instead of down low with his back to the basket? If teams insist on doubling Morris down low, Woo could be pretty effective with the 8 foot jumper.

I don't know about him being the best to come along years but I think he is one the best young coaches out there. To be in his first year at UMass and to beat the 'Ville and come into UK and play well says a lot about him. I like his style of basketball. Now whether or not he would be right for UK? Dunno. He needs to be successful somewhere other then the OVC before he steps into the SEC. Besides UK has a Coach that I doubt is going anywhere any time soon.

I can truthfully say that this post is one of if not the best post that I have read in any type critisizm of OTS. I don't mind hearing it put this way at all. TRR stated that he was not a Tubby fan and gave his reasons why with respect to other posters. :thumb: Nice post TRR.

Probably so!! Some things never change. I do think Ford is a good young coach. His players alwyas give great effort.

Good win for the Cats over a good UMASS team.

If UMass doesn't compete for the Atlantic 10 title, then I'll be very suprised. They have a good combination of quick shooters and solid post play. Life had a good game tonight shooting the ball and I believe up until tonight Freeman was averaging close to 19 points per game as a the starting center.

 

IMO Kentucky played one of its best games of the season. Hopefully this will carry over into the SEC.

I just got home from the game and here are my thoughts:

 

- Rupp Arena was the most exciting that I have seen it in a long time; everyone was really into the game and cheering throughout; there were a lot of times when you could actually feel the momentum, if that makes sense; even my wife enjoyed the entire game (she usually gets bored when the crowd is dead)

- I would say without seeing numbers that there were at least 24,000 in attendance tonight

- Santa Clause (in blue) was the "Y" in Kentucky tonight

- Tubby must be reading our site because he sure enough has started putting Obrzut in the high post and sure enough, he can now hit that jump shot that we all knew he could hit

- I have to admit that I'm very proud of Sheray Thomas. He has overcome alot of adversity, mostly from jerks like myself that rode him hard and now he has accepted his role and he is doing what we need him to do to have a championship level team; good job Sheray

- Ramon Harris looked a little nervous, but I think he'll be a decent player when he gets in shape and gets in the mix

- Bradley shot well tonight, but he is still pretty wild with the ball

- Crawford and Jasper looked great

- Morris continued to look like an all-SEC/all-american type player

- The Cats showed some toughness tonight; there were times when UMASS was starting to get a little chippy and the Cats put them in their place; I was disappointed that UMASS looked like they wanted to start a fight towards the end, but the Cats took the high road

- Best overall game by the Cats tonight; best Rupp Arena crowd of the season; Most intensity of the season; Go Cats

 

- One note - not sure if it was on TV or not, but Bradley made a bad play and Tubby took him out; he refused to take the towel from Jasper when he checked in and it dropped on the court; Tubby ran on the court, grabbed the towel, and drew back like he was going to throw the old fastball at Ramel; the crowd went wild; then he looked at Ramel and pitched the towel in his face; then immediately got in his face and showed him who was boss; Tubby was into it tonight.

Oh yeah - Kyle Macy was one of the announcers tonight on the Big Blue Network.

UK played very well tonight in almost every aspect of the game....The entire freshman class is going to be real special, especially Jasper and Meeks. I've heard comparisons of Meeks to Keith Bogans and I can see a lot of similarities in their games.

 

To the poster who said they thought Jasper would get a triple-double before he's done at UK....My dad and myself had the same conversation during the game....I'll go a step further and say he gets one by the end of next year, he reminds me a lot of a certain triple-double machine that's making millions right now.:sssh:

Best 35 minutes of team ball they have played.

 

Last 5 was not so good, in handling pressure, and then the 1 on 5 sets that saw a 20 point lead dwindle to 11.

UK did a nice job of taking Freeman out of the game. he didn't handle the doubles his way all night. Life can really shoot the ball. They will contend for the A-10 this year.

UK shot well, but they took good shots.

Best the halfcourt offense has looked.

Jasper is getting more confortable, starting to look to drive to the basket and had a couple of penetrate and pitches tonight.

 

Still scratch my head over some of Tubby's substitution patterns.

Stevenson plays well in the first half, and Im not even sure he played the first 15 minutes of the second half.

Porter struggled tonight handling the ball versus UMass ultra-quick point guard.

 

Good win to take into the holiday break.
