Will kids get paid? Yes.

Do they deserve the chance to get paid? Yes.

Will this be infinitely more corrupt? Yes.

Will the rich get richer? In some cases, but big market schools are in a better situation now than ever.

 

I agree.

Regarding the lower ranked kids expecting to be paid, I’m fine with that also. They can expect all they want. If a business is willing to pay them, they should be able to endorse that business. 

It makes no difference to me if it’s Trevor Lawrence getting a new car from a local dealership or a 2nd string lineman getting some tattoos in exchange for signing some autographs. At a minimum, the players should have the same opportunity to generate outside revenue as their coach does. 

In an ideal situation, kids should have simply been able to sign with and receive advances from certified agents.

If someone wants to pay a kid to secure a future partnership, why should that matter to anyone outside of the two parties involved ?

Kids have been getting paid to play for decades. At least now the corruption will be out in the open for all of us to see.

I’d rather it be that way as opposed to just continuing to act like it doesn’t happen.

Turning a blind eye to a problem never helps.

Yeah, I really don’t want the schools to be issuing checks. If they are though, I do believe the school should have the right to “fire” an athlete for not performing up to the standards that were expected.

If a restaurant is willing to pay a few grand for a kid to come sign autographs, I don’t have an issue with it.

Very messy situation.  It won’t happen, they will have side hustles as they should be allowed to have.

No way it plays out that way and it shouldn’t.

The schools may be allowed to sell kids on different opportunities during the recruiting process but I highly doubt we actually ever see the Universities cutting checks.

How many 3, 4 and 5 star recruits are on OSU's roster? Let's multiply that number by the dollars listed and see what that adds up to. Then let's look up how much revenue OSU football generates.

OSU has already hired a firm to help the kids with marketing and taxes.  I think that’s a really strong move.

They can already do this. A scholarship is a year to year contract. A school and decide not to renew a scholarship of a player. They can also dismiss a player (though not for performance issues). So while it’s not common a school can “fire” a player. 
 

I haven’t gone this this thread so this may of come up. Taxes can get real messy/confusing real fast. Also some schools I’m sure are going to use the tax advantages of certain states to their advantage. FL, TX and TN all have no income tax I believe. Then you get into if you do a signing or some other business in one state but you go to school or a resident of another state it can get messy. 
 

As far as the OSU study goes it would be interesting to see how they came up with that number. The program generates that money not really the athlete. Plenty of 4 and 5 star kids don’t pan out. There are 2 and 3 star kids that move ahead of those 4 and 5 stars. OSU is viewed as a top program and has a large fan base. By default the program is going to generate large amounts or money and attract high level recruits. Add in their recent success means more/higher paying bowl games, TV contracts and so on it can skew the value of that 4 and 5 star recruit. 
 

Now don’t get me wrong I think you see it more in basketball that a series or group of high level athletes can be worth a large amount of money. The Fab Five generated an extremely large up swing in money going to Michigan. 

There will 100% be athletes that get burned by taxes on this. It's an absolute certainty, IMO.
