Makes sense. I'd imagine coaches meet with ADs more than we typically hear. Doesn't necessarily mean they are leaving. This is, if true, an interesting development.

I would say agents meet with ADs all the time. I can't see Calipari having an actual meeting (yet).

At Texas?   I doubt that there is such a thing.  The Longhorns' athletic foundation's coffers dwarfs everyone else's.

Correct, thanks for the clarification. I should have said "representatives" or agents, not necessarily face-to-face coach/AD.

It might be time to revisit my replacement list for CAL. KSR doubts we hear anything about CAL this weekend. If CAL leaves it would get Mitch out of that ridiculous lifetime contract and save KY 72 million dollars.

To compare salaries, Calipari makes about $6MM a year than Smart did. That's a sizeable gap to make up. Texas has the coffers to do it, but 1) doesn't mean they will; and 2) doesn't mean Calipari would go. At this point this all seems speculative.

Agreed about the dollars Texas has, but Calipari has that lifetime contract here that would pay him well beyond when he's no longer coaching.  Question is whether Texas wants to use that kind of dough, especially when Cal isn't exactly getting the cream of the crop in talent anymore.

Hiring CAL away from KY would be a huge splash hire for UT. Think it would stink short term for KY because they would lose most if not all of their roster and recruits. Long term may be a win because CAL best years at KY are behind him and he is burnt out living in the BBN fish bowl. KY and CAL need a fresh start.

Cal lifetime contract isn’t lifetime, it’s until 2029.

Does that include the provisions about him becoming an ambassador for the university/program and still being generously compensated?  Just curious.

If Cal thinks this might cause a bidding war between UK and Texas, I don't think Mitch will have the flexibility or leash to do more after this season.
