TheDeuce Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Although Texas could probably pay him what he wants, zero percent chance. 1
nikeman49 Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Hookem Horns!!! Cal would look good in that Texas orange!!
bugatti Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Put aside the coaching. Calipari has never struck me as a Lexington, KY guy... but it works. I definitely do not see Calipari as an Austin, TX guy.

Most likely, but I am more so talking about living in Austin. I don't see Calipari getting back stage tickets for SXSW and searching for top shelf Tex-Mex. 1

Texas hasn’t been considered a football school in the last 10-12 years. Basketball has been the top sport there and Cal could get him a huge cowboy hat and buy a big ranch there somewhere.

I don't care if Texas went 0-12 every season the last decade, it is still a football school. To say it has been a basketball school is only speaking to on-court/field results. Which Texas basketball hasn't been any better than it's football program the past decade, imo. Going to the NCAA tournament and losing the first or second round is anything special. 8

My reference was directed at the last 10-12 years, my friend that lives in Austin said football was second choice among fans there and basketball was on top and baseball very popular there as well.

Your friend may be right. However, the only thing that matters is what is first choice among donors. And the big money donors view Texas as football first and everything else second. 2 1
DanvilleFan Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Just don't see Texas being able to overcome Calipari's massive contract here to entice him to come. That'd be some kind of budget breaking deal.
Tomcats1990 Posted March 26, 2021 Author Posted March 26, 2021 Longhorn Network reporting AD is meeting with CALIPARI today.
