This game was dominated by X in the 1st quarter, CC in the 2nd and the teams played even for the rest of the game with CC having around a 6-7 point lead on x at times in the fourth.

 

From what I thought I saw, I thought there was a bad no call on that went the way of X that allowed them an easy breakaway lay-up to put them up 45-44...there were a few other calls that went X's way but the game is over and you can't do much about it now.

These stats mirror the BBHS-Oak Hills game--Physical defense making for ineffective offense!! Thought CC might pull it off?

No problem...it's all worth to put oon a good event.

 

On my part, the best thing in my mind that I did was have music playing during the intros of BOTH teams.

 

I even played some songs that I thought the crowd, especially the CovCath student section, would like and get up and move their bums around but nothing happened. One kid from CovCath even attempted to do the boxing cheer but when he was ready...the rest of the section just sat down on him...I did think that was funny.

 

For those of you that read this and think that inside I was rooting for CovCath...well the :devil: :devil: :devil:Devil's Lair :devil: :devil: :devil: is probably freezing over because YES I was...LOL...I dislike Cincy St. Xavier so much that it caused me to want CovCath to win. I will not get into why I dislike StX so much because this is not the thread to do it in BUT I will say that the talent level their has dropped off considerably since they won the OHSAA D1 Championship in 2000. (I have to hear about that team literally ALL the time from my roommate...his brother was the PG on that team).

 

As far as the officiating...I this game and the Gtown/SHDHS game were the only games where I thought the officiating wasn't good (look at the stats from that game that I've posted and you'll see what I'm meaning).

Good defense or bad offense by the two squads

A game in the 40s is classic GCL b-ball.

CoV Cath boxes out very well....they move well on offense also. I only watched the first half so those were a couple of things I saw. As far as St. X...having a front line that goes 6-8, 6-6 and 6-7.... i thought they were not very effective as they should have been. The X guards were very good but overall was not overly impressed. I did like the play of Bondick for covcath, he keeps his composure and is tenacious. Bovard looks football rusty and Jacobs was a little off on his shot. Grimes/Schmerge/Noll really hustled on teh boards and like I said before... they box out extremely well.

As for the above, tale of two halves. Bo and TJ looked good in the 2nd half. Your observations for the first half were correct though.

 

This was probably CCH's most impressive game and also the most dissappointing that they gave it away at the end. I'm sure that someone will get on here and say that they didn't "give it away" but with having something like a 7 point lead with under 2 minutes is as close to giving it away as you can get.

 

On a side note, Chris Roll dressed but sat out with a groin injury.

I just read in another thread that this loss in on "Mikey Boy", referring to Coach Listerman. What a complete load of GARBAGE. Going into this game it was a total mismatch and most thought a St. X blowout. These kids played there rear ends off and went toe to toe with one of the best teams around. This coaching staff has been such an easy target for people. Well this staff had this team within a possession of pulling off a major upset considering the front court advantage of 6'-8", and two 6'-6" guys vs. the very undermanned front court of CovCath without Billy Schult. Aaron Noll, Michael Grimes, J.D. Schmerge and Clay Lampl proved they will NEVER be pushed around by anyone this season. Add Billy to this group in a month and it could be the toughest group of five CovCath has seen in a LONG time.

 

I know these guys are just kids, but the answer to the question "why did CovCath lose" was very simple. They did not take care of the basketball at the end of the game. Let's give St. X some credit as their adjustment to press with a half court trap the last three minutes was genius. Coach Listerman took four time outs the last five minutes of the game to try to calm the team down. Every player that played the last few minutes needs to look at themselves and ask what do "I" need to do to get better and prevent this from happening by the time districts start. If they work on it they'll be making their 3rd trip in four years to Rupp. If the finger pointing continues at everyone else, they'll probably be watching Holmes make their second trip in three years.

I think Maile could be a really good player. When he has a smaller guy on him and goes down low he is unstopable.. Plays like his dad did at HHS back in mid 80's...:ylsuper:

I'm a big fan of Billy Schult, but the above statement is crazy. The starting 5 when they went to the State Final 4 was miles beyond this one. Unless you think that was a "LONG" time ago.

 

C.S.85 we clearly disagree about Coach Listerman, and that's fine. However, there is no way that you or anyone else can convince me that CCH loses that game, in that fashion, with Dick and Ryan on the bench still. Won't happen.
