This thread is the consumate example of apathy. It took two full days for someone to respond to my post. This thread is now 1/2 way to a full page. If the football team had blown a two TD lead in the last three minutes to lose to St. X this thread would have been busting at the seems. .

 

Various reasons for the lack of interest/attendance so far. Football extending its season by a few weeks is part of it. Holidays are part of it. Other than SHDHS, no real rival games so far. X on Saturday night at NKU is part of it. Part of it for some people is backlash due to their feelings on how Coach L handled the coaching situation.

 

I look for serious interest to pick up in January when CCH gets into a regular schedule against NKY teams.

 

Lastly, lots more people on here for football than b-ball.

chsh81, I hope you're right. You usually are.

No one should have more reason to stay away than Ryan Schrand, and he's even been to games. Dick Maile is willing to put aside any problems with Coach L to watch his grandson play. The football team has been well represented at the games and no one is riding the euphoria more than them. I don't support all that any coach does, but I'm not going to get problems with the guy get in the way of supporting them.

 

You're not going to find 3 men who care more about the kids on that team & in that program than the 3 you mentioned. I promise you that.

 

My problems & concerns started long before Ryan Schrand & Dick Maile left the sidelines. They started before Bill Petty left. Covington Catholic can move on without these guys and continue to excel. The problem is, without them there, Coach L's "weaknesses" are magnified.

True story....After not seeing Coach (Hep) Cronin in years and years, we ran into each other in a Cracker Barrel on our way to Murray State where his son Mick was the coach prior to taking the UC job. To my surprise when I started to introduced myself to him (it had to be at least twenty/Thirty years since I had last seen Hep) he said HI my name... I was stunned, that he remembered me....

 

I really like Coach L especially as a person. If I had a son, he would be the first person that I would want my kid to play for because he teaches the kids life, taking them from boys to men and getting them ready for life after basketball.

 

Do I think sometimes he does some strange things? Sure, but so did Mote and Mote was rather successful at CovCath and NKU. I must admit that the 04 front court is better, only because they have proved themselves on the floor already. Could this team be as good? Yes, but they have to prove it, on the floor. On paper, could be, should be means nothing unless you prove it on the floor.

 

Finally, Billy Schult would have been a strong member and a great addition to the 04, and believe me to the 67 or 68 teams. I love how the young man plays with his heart. I can only imagine that it is killing Billy to sit and watch, but if he keeps his head up, eyes opens he can learn an awful lot sitting on the bench right now....

 

 

OldGuy, I love ya...but man, you took the hook, line and sinker on this one! The words Hep, Mote and Mike L don't belong in the same sentence...and you obviously have not played for or had anyone close to you play for the man. Decent human being, no doubt! ... but the emperor has no clothes!

2Short.....No I haven't played for Coach L, nor have I had a son play for him either, but then again, I can assume you were never on the field, or in a huddle with Mote, or Hep either. I can at least say that I knew all three, and respect all of them for the job that they did or do.... Being a head coach is tough, just like a CEO of a company is a tough... You have employees, owners, stock holders, board of directors all wanting something from you that if you please one group, you turn off the other groups. The successful CEO, does what he does for the best of the company. Hell, you just might make everyone unhappy with you....but until they get rid of you, you have to make the calls. I will support Coach L and what he does....I don't know you 2Short to understand your dislike of Coach L....but....then again you don't know me either, to understand why I do support him, and like him......

 

Now, lets all understand something.... CovCath has been to the sweet sixteen two times in the last three years, and if you listen to some, it should have been three in a row.... Now how many teams not only in the ninth region, or for that matter in any other region, would love to have their team in the sweet sixteen even one time in the last twenty years? Guys, ask the basketball players, students from across the CovCath Highway (NDA) how they would like to just play one time in the State Tournament... Think about it, CovCath has gone twice in the last three years, and another time in the 92, while your sisters, cousins, girlfriends, wives or next door neighbors etc. haven't gone once, since 1987....... Do you think that NDA would welcome Coach L with open arms, if he could do for them, what he has done for CovCath? I think the good Sisters from across the highway would love it....and just might (now understand when I say just might) let the girls out of school to go to the State Tournament (no they wouldn't my daughter said).:thumb:

OG, we have a lot in common...a deep love for the Colonels; a sincere respect for those whom choose the vocation of a high school coaching; and, we apparently both know these three coaches...I apologize as it has occured to me that is probably not the proper venue for some of my thoughts. I commend you and thank you for your loyalty and unyielding support for the Colonels. For what it may be worth, my opinion has very little to do with a loss to St X, or any difference in opinion I may have with the coach relative to this X or that O...
