The starting 5 when they went to the State Final 4 was miles beyond this one.

Well, well, well. CovCath fans are still alive. The apathy for CovCath basketball is sickening. Here goes: tough - strong, sturdy, ruthless....that's what I'm talking about. Yes the 2004 FRONT, let me repeat, FRONT court had more talent. I'll take the group that went toe to toe with St. X. Schult and Grimes are the most relentless players I've seen in a LOOOONG time. They will never be pushed around. Put Billy or Grimes in the Votel frame and they are major D1 material.

 

H.S.Sports - Just close your eyes, put your head back, take a deep breath and let it go man. Ryan and Dick are gone. There going to stay gone the rest of this season. This team is still trying to figure it all out. They would be no matter who was here. If I recall, every player on the floor that had a turnover in the last three minutes of that game played for Ryan and Dick last year. Looked to me like all fundalmentals went out the window when the pressure rose. That will change the more these guys are put in that situation. When it does remind yourself who the coach is and be ready to give out the credit as quickly as your ready to pass out the blame.

I appreciate your loyalty and fervant defense...but suffice it to say, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about here. That is not a shot at your intellect or your knowledge of basketball; simply relative to your lack of intimate knowledge of this particular situation. I know I speak for the vast majority of us who did experience it...trust me, you have no idea.

Oh, it wasn't that long ago..... was it?

 

 

As you get older, the games, the victories, the losses, the mistakes or the triumphs get less important, but the friendship, you cherish and remember.

 

True story....After not seeing Coach (Hep) Cronin in years and years, we ran into each other in a Cracker Barrel on our way to Murray State where his son Mick was the coach prior to taking the UC job. To my surprise when I started to introduced myself to him (it had to be at least twenty/Thirty years since I had last seen Hep) he said HI my name... I was stunned, that he remembered me....

 

I really like Coach L especially as a person. If I had a son, he would be the first person that I would want my kid to play for because he teaches the kids life, taking them from boys to men and getting them ready for life after basketball.

 

Do I think sometimes he does some strange things? Sure, but so did Mote and Mote was rather successful at CovCath and NKU. I must admit that the 04 front court is better, only because they have proved themselves on the floor already. Could this team be as good? Yes, but they have to prove it, on the floor. On paper, could be, should be means nothing unless you prove it on the floor.

 

Finally, Billy Schult would have been a strong member and a great addition to the 04, and believe me to the 67 or 68 teams. I love how the young man plays with his heart. I can only imagine that it is killing Billy to sit and watch, but if he keeps his head up, eyes opens he can learn an awful lot sitting on the bench right now....

FWIW, I'll take the backcourt of '04 over this year's too.

I'm fairly sure this conversation / debate is exactly the OPPPOSITE of apathy.

 

I think Mike is a wonderful person -- top notch. That isn't the question. Believe me, I wish nothing more for these boys than great success. I know many of them personally and they have no question whether or not I'm in their corner. I'm sure you are a very intelligent business man so this concept should make perfect sense to you: surround yourself with great people whose strengths balance you out, not folks that are exactly like you. That's not the case anymore. However, you're right, Dick and Ryan aren't coming back and that's a shame.

This thread is the consumate example of apathy. It took two full days for someone to respond to my post. This thread is now 1/2 way to a full page. If the football team had blown a two TD lead in the last three minutes to lose to St. X this thread would have been busting at the seems. St. X is the #2 basketball team in the entire city of Cincinnati. Coming that close to beating them deserved enough kudos to go around. Except for cch5432, it was ref and St. X bashing. The crowds at the CovCath games have been horrible except for the students. Are people willing to let some feelings towards Coach L get in their way of enjoying what looks to be a probable trip back to Rupp? I just don't get it.

You're not going to get much more fundamentally sound (on either side of the ball) than Nestheide. I'll take him over whoever Coach L puts at the point this year, including Todd. Now, if TJ is at the #2, we've got a different story.

 

At the 2 guard I think Kennedy was better offensively than Bovard. Bo is a better ball handler, though. I'd call that a draw, as they're probably about equal on the defensive side of the ball.

 

The one thing that this year's squad has going for them is depth at the guard position. Whether it's Roll, Bondick, TJ or Bovard, you've got 4 guys who are more than capable of handling the ball.

Huh? Sorry I have family in town or I would have been on to respond sooner. I am anything but apathetic about CCH sports. Am I showing a lack of passion for my opinion? If so, I need to be more clear.

 

What does the fact that the crowds have been down say to you? That football season has everyone feeling euphoric and they haven't come back down to Earth yet? That there is a faction of people who are disappointed in the actions of the Head Coach and are willing to stand on principle to express their frustration? Are they wrong? I don't think any of the people that are staying away from games right now (and obviously I can't speak for all of them) wish anything for the boys but the best, and hopefully those young men can experience another trip to Rupp for the Sweet 16.

 

If you choose to support all that Mike does, hats off to you. I don't. I know that Ryan has been to 2 or 3 games, and I know that he very much wants to be there for those young men he's worked with for the last few years. However, as you intimated to, I'm sure it's hard for Ryan.

 

Dick has blood in the game, and I'm sure wild horses wouldn't keep him away.
