Mavericks and the National Anthem.

Recommended Posts

The National Anthem protests have become a meme IMO. It will get attention but it is more negative than it is worth. What is being protested gets swallowed by the attention being on the type of protest. Most people will only remember you protested the anthem and have no idea why you did it. Get creative and find another way to make your protest.

Why? So people can complain about that too?

To get attention to the cause for the protest versus people complaining about another anthem protest.

People who are complaining about the form of protest are going to complain regardless. They have never cared about the reason and never will. They want white supremacy, social injustice, and police brutality to continue.

Last October right after the report came out that the NBA was down 45% Adam Silver said next season will focus on “returning to normalcy” so it makes sense to me he/the NBA is sitting on Cuban over this and making him comply with playing the anthem.

They were down 45% because they'd just taken a four month break, played two months in an Orlando bubble, and during the Finals competing with the NFL. And the whole China deal. If they think playing the national anthem in Dallas is going to be the magic elixir, they have bigger issues to worry about. And they do.

And to clarify, they have been doing this all season and life was going on as normal. Not until someone asked them about it did it become a story, just proving nobody really cares nor does it impact anything.

And for the record, I do love the national anthem and playing it before sporting events. That said, that does not define patriotism, like some want it make it out to be. Patriotism should be reflected in your everyday actions and true patriotic beliefs, not about a two minute salute.

False, but that's why it's being discussed.

I will admit my position has evolved since this whole national anthem thing started in 2016. When you consider half the people at stadiums are on their phones during the anthem and 99% of America is sitting down eating donuts viewing it from home, I have come to realize "honoring America" has become like religion. It means different things to different people and who am I to say "this is how it should be done." Again, patriotism should be defined in much bigger terms than a gesture.  People do things in the name of "patriotism" all the time which are not patriotic. Much like those who do things in the name of Christianity when their actions don't reflect it.
