Tuesday evening Pendleton County traveled to Montgomery County to play a contest that both teams lost.

An official working the game has since tested positive for Covid, effectively shuttering both programs until further notice.

Lunacy!!!  I'm sorry but someone in authority needs to get a grip on what determines when teams/programs are shut down.  There is no way that a single official comes in direct contact with a player for fifteen minutes during a high school basketball game.  All of these precautions have become so restrictive, that the tail is wagging the dog.  

We are facing nightly 20% cancellations, and it is only a matter of time until each team in the state is affected.  We've already established that our high school players are not the ones at high risk, but we continue to shut down programs for a single positive, and individual players for indirect contact with someone who has tested positive.  We have been tolerant and have conformed to the mask rules, sanitization, social distancing, and limited attendance guidelines since football practice began in August.  We are all now well aware of the effects of the Covid and the consequences. 

Both of these teams were scheduled to play two teams each over the next few days.  Those game have been or will be canceled.   The "precautions" have become more condemning than the disease. 

It is obvious that more real-time realistic protocols need to be developed and employed.  What we have now borders on Fantasy Land.  With all of the precautions, protocols, masks, social distancing in place, nothing much has changed.  Covid has become a fact of life.  It is what it is.  Let us deal with it.  Real life evaluations need to be made, and the best interest of our players need to be met, or else we might as well scrap the remainder of this season. 

Are we going to be permitted to play, or aren't we???????????

 

Pendleton County was shut down yesterday and today.  Supposed to go to Maysville tomorrow night.

I'll tell you one thing, Coach Elsbernd with a week off to get ready for what's next?? I would HATE to be whoever plays him next week. He'll have those Wildcats running, gunning and dunking by then. He is not a coach to be trifled with. The Wildcats will be better for it. 

I wish he was still in the blue and white. He's on my Mt. Rushmore of Polar Bear coaches for sure.

As I have stated before, this whole deal of trying to play is crazy.  Just call it a season and see what next season brings.

PC has now reported two positive tests and the program is shut down through Jan. 24. That's five games  probably lost on the schedule. When they return they have Robertson County.

It's not crazy and in actuality is pretty likely, but I don't know that anyone could say with 100% certainty that the official is the root of the spread.

They have cancelled games for Friday and Saturday.
