So it stands to reason why X might have a few more championships than most other schools in the county/state? Who did they play in 1909, 1911 & 1917?

 

Again, the KHSAA hasn't been giving out titles since we've been competiting, so we weren't winning 100 titles in sports no one else competed in back in the 1800's. I think track has been given since 1920, baseball, the earliest I could find was '42, basketball was 1918, XC since '53, football wasn't recognized until '59, golf in '35, soccer since '72, wrestling since '64.

 

X hasn't won more championships because we've been around longer. I think it'd be a very safe bet that X has won more championships per year than any other school since say...1955.

When was X's last basketball title....right...X is dominant at cross country, golf, swimming, tennis, and very strong in football.....the rest they were dominant at one time...but not nearly like they used to..

 

As I understand it, there are 10 KHSAA state championships for boys each year. I could be slightly off, but as I recall, from 1997 through 2001 (1997-1998; 1998-1999; 1999-2000; 2000-2001) X won 5 of the 10 boys state team titles two times, four one time and three one year. I am not aware of such dominance by any school at any time in Kentucky high school athletic history.. .Are you? That is why, I think, Sports Illustrated ranked X 14TH nationally in athletics (and the only Kentucky school in the top 100).

 

BTW, this was in addition to X being first or second (with Manual) in National Merit winners. Some years X has more National Merit winners than all the Catholic schools in Kentucky combined.

Calm down buddy, your X bud Riverside provided all of this information, so you should have told him to start a new thread, not me. Regardless, X definitely has a strong foundation because of being around so much longer than anyone else. You would have thought this multi million dollar complex would have come a long time ago. At any rate, as I said before, pictures indicate the X Complex will be second to none in the State of Kentucky.

St. X has placed the primary importance on Academics. St. X has invested infrastructure to continually meet this demand since 1961. It still continues to this day... At St. X Academics come first and then Athletics.... That has always been the St. X mission and that will never change. Some time ago, others spent major money to buy a practice field. St. X invested in academic programs. Now, St. X is investing in Athletic infratructure (now that the academic programs and facilities have been upgraded). So, I hope this answers the concerns of why it has taken St. X so long to get to where it is today.... Academics first....

Indeed we did, I was lucky enough to be one of the students who started after they finished the first few phases of it. They didn't do much, if any, on the athletic facilities until after that was finished. That said...

This picture has me wondering a bit. It will be interesting to see if they close off the top at all. Given that part of the stand is under the bleachers, they can't close it all off. I don't like the pole in the middle of the window either, but I think there's enough clearance that it shouldn't be a problem. At least if it's bad weather, people will be able to go under the bleachers to escape.

 

 

 

 

I hate the lack of symmetry with the press boxes/suites. I think they start at the 20 and end at the far 45. It likely has been done this way since the fieldhouse stops there, as the future basketball arena will go next to the fieldhouse on the other side of the bleachers. You can see it more clearly in the next photo.

 

 

 

 

The future home of Tiger basketball was originally designed to go into the space right behind the bleachers here. I'm assuming that this has changed since they're putting in a sidewalk and parking spaces. Given that the arena has been said to accomodate 2,000, there's no way to fit it in without tearing up the parking they're currently putting in. You can see what I mean based on the original illustrations. If they do build it off the backside of the bleachers, next to the fieldhouse, I hope that they build it so the roof is flush with the height of the bleachers, so that they could extend the press box/suites onto the top of the arena if they desired.

My final concern is that there was a good amount of wasted space above the fieldhouse and below the boxes/suites. I would like to have seen this space be used as coaches offices, giving the entire first floor of the fieldhouse to the athletes, and have a couple sets of stairs running up to the second floor.

 

 

 

 

All in all, I think the facility will be a fantastic home for all X sports, but I do have some minor complaints.

Thanks BuddyBW for the photos. Looks as if the final product is starting to take shape. I would be surprised if the area under the bleachers is "open" to pedestrian traffic. Im looking forward to seeing the finished product in person. Thanks again for the photos.

Final layer of asphalt is being placed on the track, and the press box/suites are scheduled to be complete July 1st.
