I think that covers all the major KHSAA sanctioned sports pretty well. BTW, I consider Basketball and Baseball as major sports. :laugh: :laugh:

I do believe that some are missing on your count, but not positive. X is also the only school in the state to have a state title in every KHSAA sponsored sport. There's a reason X was ranked #14 in the country for high school sports by Sports Illustrated.

Thanks BuddyBW - I just did not want folks to think that St. X is a one sport school. St. X is very successful at all sports as the above records show. This is why the new athletic complex has facilities for many sports and not just football.

I remember that recent article very well. X was the only Kentucky school to rank in the top 100. It was an honor for X to be so recognized nationally by an authoritative, objective source.

When was X's last basketball title....right...X is dominant at cross country, golf, swimming, tennis, and very strong in football.....the rest they were dominant at one time...but not nearly like they used to..

4 State Championships in Basketball is nothing to sneeze at, thats four more than zero.... As far as baseball is concerned, 5 is more than zero. We dont apologize for the St. X tradition.

Wow, that's alot. How long has X been around? Since 1850? I'm sure 4 or 5 times longer than most Jefferson County schools.

Louisville St. Xavier was started in 1864.

St. X. was founded in 1864 as Saint Xavier Institute and was initially located on 4th Street where the current Palace Theatre is now. In 1891 the Xavierians moved to a larger location at 2nd and Broadway, where they remained until the school's final move to Poplar Level Road in 1961. The Tigers began competing in baseball in 1909, basketball in 1911, and football in 1917. Within Jefferson County, only Male and Manual have longer athletic histories.

While X has been around almost 4x as long as Ballard for example, the KHSAA hasn't been giving out championships since the 1800's, so while we do have a few more years under our belts, our championships are over the last 60 or so years. As Ox pointed out, Male and Manual have even longer athletic histories than X, but not nearly the hardware (although they both dominated track, with over 40 titles between them, 26 of which came before 1950).

So it stands to reason why X might have a few more championships than most other schools in the county/state? Who did they play in 1909, 1911 & 1917?
