1. I thought this was a very even game. CCH was a little better up front and Lex Cath was better at the skill positions. Outside of Reardon, there was a noticeable difference in athleticism between the teams at the second level. 

2. Going off number 1, just like great players can have bad games, so can great coaches. It’s pretty easy to beat man coverage running whatever when you have Michael Mayer and Jack Coldiron at TE and WR. Those guys are going to be so much better than the kid guarding them that it doesn’t matter what you run. Lex Cath played cover 1 or “man free” all game and we ran our normal offense and when your answer is for the receiver to “win” on your normal passing game concepts and the opponent is more athletic than you, that’s not going to work very often. There were no switch releases between 1 and 2, no bunch or stack formations, no shallow crossers or mesh concepts, very little motion when throwing the ball to change the numbers for the defense. The screen game was non existent. It wasn’t good enough by the offensive staff. You have to help your guys vs man coverage if they can’t beat the opponent athletically. That was the reason Caleb was 9-21 tonight. Sure he missed some throws, but there was little separation from the receivers and they didn’t get much help.

3. Cam Geisler physically looks like a freshman, but he’s going to be a player. Really excited to see what he looks like next year. 

4. Like other people mentioned congrats to LC, they wanted it more and pulled it out after some bad breaks. 

I’ll also add #18 was a stud for Lex Cath. He matched up at corner with Reardon all game man to man and did a good job. He did get beat twice on double moves and the first one was a poor throw by Caleb that should’ve been a TD and Ethan dropped the second one. Just that type of game I guess.

I thought Lex Cath's o line did a nice job protecting their QB. In the parts of the game I watched, Cov Cath struggled getting pressure on the QB. It was pretty even in the trenches.

The Lex Cath defensive backfield was impressive.

Jacob had a very rough night but he had some good throws in the fourth quarter, especially that long throw down the middle late.  It was very well covered but the pass dropped in perfect over the defender.

Nally was dressed and ended up going into the game for the last drive or two, but was help out 90% of the game  

 

Why Cov Cath squib kicked the ball after going up 7 in 4th quarter is beyond me?  You have one of the best, if not the best kicker in the state, let him kick it in to the end zone like he did the previous kick.  This allowed Lex Cath to start with great field position. 

The defense CCH played on that last drive was embarrassing.  Two blown coverages in a row made things very easy for Lex Cath.  Glad to hear there is help on the way for CCH in the secondary.  A decent QB will have no issues picking apart the secondary as it was.  

Giesler looked really good, like the speed he adds in the backfield.  He needs to continue getting carries.

Tough loss for CCH RPI wise, most likely be traveling now after the 2nd round.

Congrats to LexCath on the win!  They play really hard and it was a fun game to watch.  Prep Spin does a fantastic job covering events.  Top notch.

Congrats to CovCath on a marvelous streak.  LexCath just made one more play in this one.  

I think it a credit to the kids/staff when they were down 21-7 late in the third they fought back, made plays, took the lead, lost the lead and then put themselves in position to win the game.  After the first two regular season games I didn't know how this season would go for  CovCath, but they've continued to get better.  Will they win 5A?  Who knows, but I'm certain this will motivate them.

They're currently #3 in the RPI, which isn't bad.  I don't believe the playoff bracket is out yet, but I would say they will host round 3 depending on the breakdown.  They may have to travel to Scott County in the semi's, but in the era of COVID, is it really a bad thing to drive 50 minutes to play in a near-empty stadium?  

Then again, until the final matchups are announced, I may be totally wrong on my assumption.

I actually meant 3rd round and it looks like the loss didn't affect them as much as I thought having the 3rd best RPI.  Frederick Douglas having the 9th best RPI is a crime.

He had some dimes tonight. The deep ball to Reardon in the first was on the money that Ethan dropped. The throw to Schneider late in the 4th was a big time throw so was the dig route to Reardon on the last drive. It's just about consistency with him.

I'm surprised Cov Cath's RPI dropped like it did. I did not think losses had much impact on KHSAA RPI.

Man, that was a tough loss. Great job by Lex Cath. CCH will learn a lot from this and maybe the fire they will need for the playoffs. 

would love to see Owen Leen get some touches at RB on varsity going forward. Cam is quicker BUT Owen runs angry ?
