3A's top ranked team welcomes #7 to the "Ville"

A pivotal 3A District IV matchup takes place this Friday in Louisville, as Mercer County (4-1) visits "Derby City" to tangle with DeSales (2-2). Coach Buchanan's boys have responded well since the season opening loss to Boyle County, winning four straight. They've been relatively unchallenged the past two weeks, following consecutive close wins over excellent competition in Taylor County and CAL. Running backs Brayden Dunn and Jackson Peavler have developed into a formidable 1-2 punch out of the backfield, while Dunn also doubles as Mercer's leading receiver.

DeSales will surely welcome the challenge after being robbed of a game last week. The Colts were relegated to the role of spectators in Week 6 after suffering a three touchdown setback to St. X the week before.  When you face DeSales, expect a tough, disciplined defense with an aggressive pass rush and a heavy dose of James Johnson, a punishing, athletic, and versatile threat at running back. Containing Johnson should be a top priority for Mercer after he gashed the Titans defense a year ago.

Dang! I was hoping for a Ballard - DeSales game
