I have a few relatives who are teachers.  One called a parent to let her know that her high school student had not been attending any online classes.  Keep in mind, this is a student who has full access to the internet. The parent said "What do you want to do about it?"  My relative said "Well, I am going to fail him.  I just wanted to let you know why."  I liked that.

Another relative teaches in a very poor school.  Most parents are working all day and many homes have no access to the internet.  Many kids and their parents have no way to get to school to pick up homework.  They are doing their best, but their kids are falling very far behind.

Poor kids are disproportionally adversely affected by this virus.

Now, back to the thread topic.  As I stated in a different thread, I am getting the vaccine today, with a second one in a month.  We were told that after getting the second one that masks would no longer be required in the work place.  How is that going to work in the community?  Unless we get a big button to wear that says vaccinated, I guess we will still have to wear one.

I have seen some experts say masks should still be worn even after receiving the vaccine.

Is there an official stance from the CDC or any other powers that be on this issue?

The thought is there is not enough research yet to say for certain that a vaccine will stop the spread, though it will protect you from getting it. I think most know this is probably an overkill step, but with the virus being as new as it is the recommendations are what they are. I could see that reversing course soon enough.

It also tells me the "next time" and there will be a next time, we will be "required" to wear masks for close to two years if not longer.

Non-starter...

Fear mongering.

It is a solid prediction.

Based on what exactly? Your opinion? We've had to wear masks for less than a year, how do you get to more than double that "next time?"

If masks are still "required" even after being vaccinated it will be over a year this time around and the speed of the vaccine was a world record pace this time around and I don't think we can count on a vaccine as quick next time around meaning masks will be "required" for at least a year but probably longer next time.

People are being vaccinated as we speak and we still have 3-4 months before we get to a year of wearing masks. "At least a year" is much different than "two years if not longer."

I think a year is "best case scenario" in a situation like this but whether it is a year or two years next time it will be catastrophic.

I guess I am not following what you are getting at here. We can paint any reality we want with this, but this is boogeyman talk.

I am getting at what is the plan next time?

Not sure. But if this has taught us anything, it is that a plan is only as good as those implementing it and those willing to "sacrifice" by following it. As I've noted, America has set the lowest of bars for combating COVID and we are the laughing stock of the world. So I guess my answer would first be to actually coordinate efforts, not paint your own reality, and smile because it is almost impossible for us to do any worse than we have. ?

Is America 195 in deaths per capita?

And while we are at it does anyone die of the flu anymore?
