I can see a couple of players having down years...but an entire TEAM!!! How does this happen?
October 1, 20205 yr Whether you like it or not, pencil in Votto, Moustakas and Suarez at first, second and third. They're all under multi-year contracts, and aren't going any where. Likewise, Barnhart and Iglesias are still under contract for 2021. Somebody would have to be willing to take on their contracts (Barnhart=$4.187 mil, Iglesias=$9.125) in a trade. Don't see it happening as individuals, but maybe in a bigger package. Galvis is an UFA. Don't see them spending money to bring him back. Will Garcia be the answer? Does Farmer get a look as the full-time SS or does he stay your ultimate utility player? In the outfield, Shogo is the only one under a defined contract (7mil). Aquino is under team control, while Goodwin and Winker will both go to arbitration. Senzel has a hard time staying healthy, so I still don't think the Reds know what they have in him. The two questions that may impact the most are...does Castellanos stay, and does the NL retain the DH? Bauer is gone. Gray and Miley are both under contract for 2021. Disco is a UFA and likely gone. Castillo and Mahle will go to arbitration. Do the Reds look at Antone, Lorenzen or Romano for that 5th spot? Or keep them in the pen and look elsewhere? Bradley could be the man to close, if the Reds are able to deal Iggy.

The Reds took this guy in when he was considered a "misfit." Provided him a stage on which to prove himself without any pressure. He has a great season, increases his value in the marketplace, and instead of first making an effort to sign with the Reds, is already out looking for the highest bidder. Interpretation: I'm too good for Cincinnati. Cincinnati isn't a big enough stage for me and my ego. Despite using Cincinnati to my best advantage, I now demand to be a prime time player on a prime time team. Cincinnati be damned. Let him go. He is a loose cannon and will self-destruct. Good riddance. This is what I have said has been a fundamental problem on this team all year - No allegiance to the city and fans for the team whose uniform they are wearing today. What's in it for me??? It's all about the $$$ and their own self-interests.

If another company came calling and asked me to go work for them for a considerable amount more, I'm not sure I'd worry about my current company's interest before my own. Never understood why we hold professional athletes to a different standard.

You've got a guy who's worked his butt off to be one of the top pitchers in baseball, and has maybe 5 to 7 years to take advantage of it financially...and you want to blame him for that?!?!?!?

According to articles I have read, he is not objecting to signing a multi year deal this offseason.

So, it's OK that all of our players are "Rent-A-Players"???' Again, a criticism of our team. They are not a team. They are a collection of players, primarily looking out for themselves instead of the city which is paying their tabs. If Bauer sells out on us, then he merely used us as his safe place to demonstrate what he is capable of doing to the rest of the league, and is now available to the highest bidder. Maybe a longer time stint in Cincinnati would be a token of his appreciation to us, since he is now worth much more now than when he arrived.
