Perhaps the boys were intimidated at the fact they were playing Highlands...

 

Something is obviously wrong if Cooper out played Highlands in ever aspect of the game but didn’t get the win.

 

It’s not unheard of but again I wasn’t at the game due to the fact that I was in the finals of the pumpkin carving contest in my neighborhood.

No I don’t have a complaint, I am amused that a referee would use the words “hit too hard”.

 

My question is, did the referee those words to describe the penalty?

Yeah, turning the ball over too much. If they were intimidated the game would have reflected a blowout which so many HHS faithful predicted.

Congrats to the birds on getting the W but I can assure no one at Cooper was intimidated especially in a one score game.

I don't know the exact stats, but I heard someone say it was like Cooper with 270 yards offense and Highlands around 200.

 

WOW.

It was more of unsportsmanlike conduct. They would stand over and look at players after the big hit. These days that’s a flag. I think highlands is down this year, but one thing I’ve liked about them is they hit hard. I don’t know if they go full contact in practice, but they sure look like it. He’s a beast.

 

Huddy is a player...undersized for his position but moves well sideline to sideline. I’m a fan.

I agree. I see this said about a lot of high school coaches needing to learn how to coach. I'm kind of surprised this hasn't happened yet. There are coaching clinics across the nation at big colleges, and just everywhere that high school coaches go to. I'm surprised there hasn't been a coaching clinic created yet called like "People in the stands teach you the game", or "Youth football coaches lead the way". You know something where high school coaches can go to and learn the right way to coach from these people. I'm sure there would be good money to be made, because high school coaches would be waiting in long lines to sign up so they can learn how to coach. So hopefully people start making coaching clinics like that, because high school coaches need to start learning how to coach for sure.

I would say one was forced as they had good pressure and hit the qb in the arm when he was throwing. The other two one was tipped up in the air off a receivers hands, and the other the qb literally threw it right to a Highlands defender who was just sitting in the flats when Cooper was driving. That set up Highlands for their first td to tie the game after that big interception return.

The only thing wrong was turnovers. A team can lose a game even if they out play them, when the other team made 5 big game changing plays. Highlands offense basically had 2 big plays on offense, and then the 3 turnovers Cooper had. Highlands had 200 yards offense, 100 yards of that came on two plays and those two plays were tds.

I was told by @tdyballgame who was at the game that Huddleston for Highlands was flagged twice for “hitting too hard”.

There was only one penalty thrown for unnecessary roughness. That came from the safety not number 1 after a receiver dropped the ball and a full second later the safety came in with a big hit. The other penalty was on the outside linebacker not number 1, and it wasn't on the hit. It was a dead ball unsportsmanlike penalty for something the Highlands defender did or said after the play. So I am not sure what the person you got your info from saw.

 

Number 1 is a heck of a player and is the one who made the play at the end on the two yard line to win it for Highlands. He is impressive.

I fully expected a comment like this one. Not even remotely surprised. It appears someone is trying to take a "dig" at Cooper.

 

Intimidated? No chance. The Highlands team is good but certainly not the Highlands team from the past. If Cooper played Cov Cath last night I would almost entertain "intimidation," but not the case. You could almost make the same argument about Highlands possibly being intimidated by Cooper. Huge game last week and then go to Union and sneak by with a 1 score game?

 

If you look back to last weeks Highlands/Cov Cath thread (and weeks before in other threads) it appears there is trouble in paradise. Clean your own house before you comment on someone else's house.

 

Cooper did not protect the ball - again. Period. They put themselves in a position to play from behind. That is never a good place to be especially if you took care of things all night. Good time for a bye week. Regroup, learn from it. Its playoff season now.
