2007 3A Football

Old argument, but they are considered NKY to the rest of the state. Seems like a natural to pull for them!!

Actually, I think "the rest of the state" considers NKY to be the 3 counties across the river from Cincy.

But...Mason Co. is the probably the best fit for NKY football fans to "adopt".

Right now looks like a stretch for the Devils ... but not so fast my friend ...

Devils return kids who

1) have played and practiced all the way to championship gmes last two years ....

2) Quarterback ... Jones is back

3) Coaching staff in tack

4) Weak district except Mason

5) 74,75,38,13,3

So don't count out the Devils ..... Reloading

Making some educated guesses here, but looking towards the playoffs next season, here is some potential matchups. Of course, any team can win, so I'm taking some liberties in this example.

Being an odd year, the odd district hosts round 3, if both teams that reach that round are #1 seeds. If not, then the higher seed hosts.

I have no idea on a couple of districts, but for argument sake, I picked the following 8 teams to reach round 3, and lets assume they were all #1 seeds coming in.

Playoffs for 2007, Round 3 (Home team in bold)

Region 1 - D1 vs D4 = Tilghman vs Henry Co

Region 2 - D2 vs D3 = Russellville vs Central

Region 3 - D5 vs D8 = Somerset vs Belfry

Region 4 - D6 vs D7 = Breathitt vs Russell

Round 4, Home team in bold (odd region hosts)

West - Tilghman vs Central

East - Belfry vs Russell (or Belfry vs Breathitt)

I have found the new class alignment on khsaa.. but where can I see which team is in what region.. The alignment shows what district they are in but not what region.?

Henry Co. ... interesting...

It was a coin toss between them or Spencer Co. Nothing scientific.

Yea, the Mason-Russell district looks quite promising.:ylsuper:

How much does Russel have coming back?

How much does Russel have coming back?

Not real sure what Russell lost but they don't rebuild, they reload. Always a great program as Coach McGlone does an incredible job.

Devils will reload , so many reps in last couple years , 2004 final 4 , 2005 State Champ and 2006 Runnerup ... Russell will have kids who have practiced over an extra year as seniors. This comes out of one if the not the best Middle School and JFL programs in the state .. Devils are positioned to reload due to the coaching staff for years to come ... QB is back #8 three year starter and very physical kid ... Ivan loves those Fullback-Quarterbacks..

If 13,38 or another kid or two steps up to handle the ball the Devils will be tough ... Wing T allows Ivan to interchange parts ... only need is a guard or two ... Devils will have two of the biggest tackles in the state , these boys need to hit the weights and the steps...

On defense #8 will be a lock down linebacker , along with Big Seth and many other kids with size and speed looking for a chance to shine ..

I look for kinks but come playoff time , the Devils will be tough again ... Actually really looking forward to this next year , just to see how the program and kids react ... Should be great fun ... Winning breeds winning in Russell Flatwoods ...

Yeah, most of the cream of that class is/was the cream of the current 2A class, so Tilghman essentially gets a class drop.

It was known and discussed before all the re-classification started that their enrollment had been steadily decreasing. There was a slight feeling even then, that they were going to drop to 2A in the 4 Class system.

How much does Russel have coming back?

As someone else said, we did lose 28 seniors, and you surely cannot replace that much leadership, but we will also have 19 Juniors coming back.

But after sitting down and looking at who is coming back and from talking to some of the starters, we still should have some talent left in the pool.

On offense, Jones(8) QB is going to be a force. The running backs (38-bailey,13-abrams,32-Hopper) all seen time last year and will need to fill some big shoes, but seem poised to do so. On the line, I see Hicks(75) moving to center. Foster(53) will stay at left guard where he did an excellent job at opening up holes on the right-side last year for Beekman,Lewis,Jones and Wells (Most of Clarks runs were to the left where Wills(56) was the lead blocker). I see Harvey(74) moving into one tackle and Bender(44) moving in at one end. The other Guard/tackle/end are still question marks, but have several candidates among them (61-boyd, 72-Miller) who last years starters told me could vie for those spots.

On defense, I see Jones(8) at one end and Foster(53) on the other. Harvey(74) will be back at tackle Cornwell(67) will be back manning the nose and Hicks(75) moving to the other tackle. Linebacker and Denfensive back will have to replace 6 senior starters. At one backer Hopper(32) could be there, the other spot could be Jones(8) will someone else at end. As far as the DB's at one corner bailey(38) did a good job for lewis(11) when he was hurt and had a key Int against Belfry. At the other corner, Cordle(3) has a good shot. At the safety position, I see Roark(6) and Abrams(13) getting an early look.

Once again these are just some early thoughts from a couple of this years starters and myself. There of course there will be some surprises as the kids get into the weight room and conditioning program this winter. Every year I have seen at least 1 kid who wasn't figured into early predictions (like this one) step up and impress the staff and earn themselves significant playing time. Brown(60) is also a wildcard. If he can recover from that horrible motorcyle accident that wiped out his entire Jr. year, that will help us for sure on defense. Also, I've heard rumors of a possible couple of transfers into the program which you have to mix in as well.

The non-conference schedule is tougher this year with the loss of 3 district opponents and the addition of games against (Lawrence Co, Raceland and Simon Kenton) to go along with the traditional 3 of (Ashland, Boyd and Greenup) along with the addition of Mason Co. to the conference, should provide a good test for these new starters.

Already looking forward to Spring Practice in April to see what looks like another good year for the Devils.

How much does Russel have coming back?

They will have one more l

Russell

I think that the East will dominate this class for the next few years. Breathitt only loses 4, from what you guys say Russell brings back alot, andI'm sure Belfry won't be a push over. To me that's the big 3 in the East. I didn't get to see Belfry or Russell play, but I do know that Russell put up a great showing in the state championship game against a Mercer County team that was in the "experts" opinion to walk all over Russell. Belfry is and probably will always be a power in any class they play in, and I believe Breathitt Football is back. They had a pretty good season and they bring back everyone too. So this class i believe will belong to the east.

I have stated before that Tilghman has benefited the most of any team in the state for the reclassification.
As have I. Tilghman should advance to the semifinals, at the very least, every year.
