I think there are three of the top ten in district 8. Corbin with Cashen and Nolan and the rest of the crew will be good and a top 5 pre-season team. Middlesboro has speed and talent returning and if they get the QB situation figured out, will be good. And Leslie Co. has 17 seniors to be and a great group of juniors including the QB who will be a lot better than last year. This is the toughest district in 2A.

I could see D4 and D6 making that same claim of 3 of the Top 10 and in D6s case, they could possibly have all 4 in the Top 10....It's unlikely, but, I'm not yet sold on Leslie as a Top 10 team...After 4-5 games into 07, I may change my mind...

I can feel a Ncc Vs. Danville rematch next year!

Way to early to forecast a 1a rematch in 2a...It is a possibility, but, there's a whole lot of teams that'll be very strong next year...Look for Owens Cath to be very good, Trigg Co has alot back, Bardstown was supposedely a year away, Corbin will be loaded, Middlesboro will again be solid, Ft Campbell will reload, Leslie returns vertually intact and then you've got the up and comers in Cov Holy Cross and Caldwell Co.....2a will be alot of fun next year..

There's a LOT more teams than Beechwood and Mayfield in the way of that now.

-it isn't 1A any more-

;)

Why?

That has never been the case. Four team district (NCC, Newport, Lloyd, Holy Cross) everybody in the playoffs. Guess that NCC/Newport game will be critical for home field..........oh never mind guess it will just determine the color of the jerseys.

For some reason I thought I saw a while ago that because of their enrollment that they would be classified in 3A. Guess not.

There's a LOT more teams than Beechwood and Mayfield in the way of that now.

Let's hear who you feel some of those teams are.

That's a funny one. I don't think Danville will be in "awe" of the new teams they share a class with and I don't look for the beat to change at all.

Here's how I see it all shaking out next year:

Dist 1 - #4 Heath at #1 Trigg Co - #3 Murray at #2 Caldwell Co

#2 Caldwell Co at #1 Trigg Co (Trigg Co advances)

Dist 3 - #4 Green Co at #1 Metcalfe Co - #3 Glasgow at #2 Monroe Co

#3 Glasgow at #1 Metcalfe Co (Metcalfe Co advances)

Dist 2 - #4 Todd Cen. at #1 O.Cath - #3 Hancock Co at #2 Ft Campbell

#2 Ft Campbell at #1 O.Cath (O.Cath advances)

Dist 4 - #4 Ft knox at #1 Bardstown - #3 Wash Co at #2 Danville

#2 Danville at #1 Bardstown (Bardstown advances)

Dist 5 - #4 Owen Co at #1 Desales - #3 Carroll Co at #2 CAL

#2 CAL at #1 Desales (CAL advances)

Dist 7 - #4 Bath Co at #1 Pres'burg - #3 Morgan Co at #2 S.Valley

#2 S.Valley at #1 Pres'burg (Pres'burg advances)

Dist 6 - #4 LLoyd Mem at #1 NCC - #3 Cov holy Cross at #2 Newport

#3 Cov Holy Cross at #1 NCC - (NCC advances)

Dist 8 - #4 Knott Cen at #1 Corbin - #3 Leslie Co at #2 Middlesboro

#2 Middlesboro at #1 Corbin - (Corbin advances)

Final 8 looks like this :

Metcalfe Co at Trigg Co

Bardstown at Owens Cath.

Pres'burg at CAL

Corbin at NCC

Semifinals

Owens Cath at Trigg Co

Corbin at Pres'burg

Finals

Owens Cath vs Corbin (tossup from there)

Not a big diffence between 1a and 2a "oneijoe"

LOL...

You guys are gonna be fun next year.

Hatz, where did this whole Danville being "in awe" come from ?!? I never said that. Heck, I wouldn't even think that of the Ads if they were placed in 5A !!!

Newcath37...my friend, I suspect you've become accustomed to believing only the top 4 teams in a given class are legitimate contenders. There'll be a HUGE difference in '07's 2A and '06's 1A. Legitimate contenders in 2A next year include:

(in geographical order from Regions 1 to 4)

1. Trigg Co.

2. Danville

3. OCath

4. Bardstown

5. Ft. Campbell

6. P-burg

7. NewCath

8. Corbin

9. Middlesboro

(maybe CAL and Leslie Co., in addition)

I wouldn't leave out these either : Caldwell Co, Desales, Cov Holy Cross, Newport or Lloyd Mem.....I agree there will be more parity in 2a, but, I think you're selling 1a a little short this year...There were serious contenders outside the normal 4 of Mayfield, Danville, NCC and Beechwood...How about Bardstown, Frankfort, Somerset, Bethlehem, Cov HCross, Raceland, LCA....On a given night, any of those 7 were capable of beating the "Little 4" and some actually did....

I think Bardstown was up there (but had a bad night). Maybe Somerset and Frankfort on a given night would have a shot. But the others weren't on the same level, IMO.

But I agree to an extent...1A was stronger overall in '06 than '05.

And the main reason I put Middlesboro so low is the lack of size (NOT HEART) of the QB next year, Eddie Gilbert.
Eddie is only a Sophomore , give him some time he will grow.

He has a good arm he's just not got the chance to show it off yet cause when he comes in as the QB it's usually our JV offense against the others teams varsity defense.

I would like for him to go to Mike Holcomb's or David Buchanan Quarterback Camp to help him devolve his QB skills.

And oh yeah the rumor about him transferring to Pineville or Bell County are false ,I talked to him and his dad today and they told me that was not TURE ,he will be wearing Yellow and Black next season.

Bardstown has the potential to be very strong. They return their QB, 4 of 5 offensive lineman, their leading tailback and all 3 fullback/TE's. They have to replace a very good wide receiver. On defense they return two defensive lineman with significant experience, two of the three starting linebackers, and some veteran secondarymen. They will have to find some depth on the DL and make some adjustments at the safety spots.

The kicking game looks to continue to be an adventure.

Bardstown made great strides in the passing game this past season but will have to be even better in the new 2A. As always, I believe they will be in the mix again this season but have an absolutely BRUTAL schedule, to include:

Nelson County

Lincoln County

John Hardin

Warren East

Elizabethtown

Washington County

Ft. Knox

Danville

Bethlehem

Warren Central

That is a big step up in scheduling....Lincoln Co., John Hardin, Warren East, Nelson Co, Bethlehem and Warren Central is a brutal nondistrict . I could see them being a .500 team and still being very good come playoff time...One thing for sure, they'll be battle tested and IMO, it'll make em better in the long run...
