Without making me look it up, in todays system, how many 2A teams will be in this class next year?

'06 class in '07 Class 2A...:

CLASS 2A

District-2-1- Caldwell County-2a, Heath-2a, Murray-1a, Reidland-1a, Trigg County-2a

District-2-2- Fort Campbell-2a, Hancock County-1a, Owensboro Catholic-2a, Todd County Central-2a

District-2-3- Glasgow-1a, Green County-1a, Metcalfe County-1a, Monroe County-2a

District-2-4- Bardstown-1a, Danville-1a, Fort Knox-1a, Washington County-2a

District-2-5- Carroll County-1a, Christian Academy-Louisville-2a, DeSales-2a, Owen County-1a

District-2-6- Holy Cross (Covington)-1a, Lloyd Memorial-2a, Newport-2a, Newport Central Catholic-1a

District-2-7- Bath County-1a, Morgan County-2a, Prestonsburg-2a, Shelby Valley-2a

District-2-8- Corbin-2a, Knott County Central-2a, Leslie County-2a, Middlesboro-1a

By my count, 15 current 1A teams will be 2A next year. And, 18 current 2A members stay in 2A.

Middlesboro was 2a this year.

There are some really good teams in this 2A district, it should be an interesting race.

Middlesboro was 2a this year.

Yep... sorry 'bout that.

That means 19, NOT 18, '06 2A members remain there for '07. And...there are 14 '06 1A members moving up.

Who will be the lone team in 2A not to make the playoffs?

Obviously, it'll be the last place team of district 1.

More than likely Reidland 3 out of every 4 years...They will occasionally be decent....

Don't forget about Corbin and Somerset having great games in the past as well as Middlesboro and Somerset, along with Middlesboro and Leslie County.

This district is sort of the best of both worlds. It's a blast from the past for the Jackets with Corbin and Somerset, and the new kids on the block with Leslie County and Knott County Central.

With Leslie being a talented team, Middlesboro not losing much, Somerset being tough year in and year out and Corbin getting of to a slow start with a fast finish, this district will be a dog fight to find out who get's what playoff position.

My Projections:

1st. My Gut says Middlesboro, my head says Corbin

2nd. again my gut says Somerset, but my head says Leslie County

3rd. my gut says Corbin, but my head says Somerset

4th. my gut say Leslie County, but my head says Middlesboro

And the main reason I put Middlesboro so low is the lack of size (NOT HEART) of the QB next year, Eddie Gilbert.

You have the Jumpers in the wrong place...

Somerset will be in 3A district 5 with Casey County, Garrard County, Jackson County, Taylor County, Wayne County.

:sssh: ;)

District-2-3- Glasgow-1a, Green County-1a, Metcalfe County-1a, Monroe County-2a

Glasgow was 2A this year.

Districts 3 and 7 look the weakest overall. But, even here, Glasgow and Prestonsburg have a strong history of past title contention.

I disagree, about D3 being one of the weakest. Glasgow is Glasgow and is never down for long... Metcalfe has had recent success in 1A region 1, and Monroe is returning several key players to team that last year won the regular season district championship and had it not been for a slip up against Glasgow (a team they beat 19-0 the previous week and held to 32 yards total offense) would have had a rematch against Owensboro Catholic a team they had already beat...

Wasn't Leslie a 3A school when Couch was there?

Yes it was. But then again, so was Belfry and maybe Russell, too.

Glasgow was 2A this year.

It sure was... My apologies, Falcon.

I agree with you about Glasgow, and thought my original statement made that clear. Like Prestonsburg, Glasgow has been an anchor in 2A football for many, many years.

About the other teams in D3 ? Well, maybe...and I defer to your knowledge on those teams. It's that there's insufficient history of title-contending football with those teams to objectively call them "strong" at this point.

In D7... Bath Co. had a very good year in 1A this year after being down for many years. Morgan Co., though down this past year, had played good football in Russell's 2A district the last few years.

My point is...though I called D3 and D7 (and perhaps D5, as well) the "weakest", it's only relative to the number of good teams in the other districts.

:bunny:

It looks to me like the strongest teams are on the west side with the new alignment, especially with Belfry and Russell moving up to 3a and Danville and Bardstown moving in....
