Mis-usage of Devito Tisdale at Bowling Green

Featured Replies

I have followed the football career of Devito Tisdale from his middle school days when Bowling Green middle school would come up to Hardin County and play East and West Hardin middle schools. What stood out top me then and stood out to me during his freshman/sophomore Bowling Green high school years when I saw them play was his speed and athleticism on the offensive side of the ball as a running back. There were times where he was clearly the best athlete on the field and showed it with multiple touchdown games.

Can someone please explain the rationale of taking an explosive athlete off of the offensive side of the ball and having him only play defense? There must be more to this story?

I’m glad he wasn’t on offense when St.X played him this past Friday. Last year he was a beast at RB when played against him.

Well there is lots of rumor and innuendo surrounding why Tisdale isn't playing offense. I won't go into them here because I don't know what's true and what's not.

The main question that has to be ask is if it is Tisdale's decision not playing offense or the coach's? And I have no idea.

I wish they would find a way to get him more involved on defense if playing offense isn't an option.

I will say he tried his heart out to return punts against St. X even taking physical punishment for it.

It 100% isn’t his decision. He was on the sideline begging to get put in on offense during the Father Ryan game and was visibly upset when he wasn’t allowed to.

Coach have something against him? I hope not. But I don’t know why. He only gets 1 high school career coach. As much as I don’t want Owensboro to face him, .he deserves the chance. I’ve seen under usage of Justin Miller at Owensboro when the coach had something personal against him. He went on to play and star for Clemson and a nfl career.

I’m curious to see if he plays offense against South Warren and in playoff games. If so, maybe it’s a matter of saving him for the most important games.

There could be a lot of factors in play so I think it's wrong to make assumptions.

None of us were there all summer during practice and practice during game weeks. We have no clue .

It's possible they may be saving him for offense during South Warren and the playoffs. Spader talked about the schedule in the post game interview after St. X and basically said they want to learn and get exposed during these tough non district games so they can fix them. They care about the playoffs the most.

There could be any number of reasons why he's not on offense.

To me he should be explaining those to the team and the media.

I believe that they have the wrong coaching staff in place. They can’t even decided who to start at QB. If Vito doesn’t play both ways it will be a short year for BG.

Tisdale is a special talent and one I got to see when he was in middle school. I hate to hear they aren't playing him on offense but there has to be a valid reason. I would think in a playoff stretch he will be utilized but they as a team need to get there and he needs to be healthy when they get there.

It is definitely a bit of mystery from the outside, and if Tisdale doesn't play much offense the rest of the year and the season doesn't play out the way they want it will be talking point for fans for a long time.

Also, this could make for a very interesting 30 for 30. :thumb:

From what I have seen and heard, there are a lot of moving parts that lead up to this.

Let's say if this were a Facebook Relationship the "It's Complicated" status would be selected.

"It's complicated" where a player is concerned usually results to "It's detrimental" where the team is concerned.

I’ve played under Coach Spader, and played with Vito for two years. The only two reasons I could see for this are, they’re saving him for district and playoffs, or they want him to focus on the position he’s most likely to play in college. I know most of the coaching staff well enough to say that politics and Bowling Green football don’t go together, there weren’t any when I was there and I doubt there are now. I still think he needs to play some offense especially in these big games and in the playoffs.
