Can Russell repeat?

Recommended Posts

1. Russell Red Devils—The defending 16th region champions have several pieces of the puzzle returning for 2006-2007.

Most importantly the Red Devils have back the 16th regions best overall player in 6’4” Senior guard Jonathan Vanhoose. Vanhoose led Russell to their first 16th regional crown since 1972 and Coach Steve Dodd’s squad has hopes of returning to Rupp for a repeat.

In addition to Vanhoose, the Red Devils have back 6’0” Senior guard Austin Blair, a sturdy guard who is strong with the ball and can score and create. 6’2” jumping jack Scott Gill is perhaps one of the region’s most athletic players and plays much bigger than his height.

6’5” Ross Turner improved greatly throughout the season and was an integral part of the tournament run. Also, the Red Devils got help when Austin Robinson transferred into Flatwoods and could bolster an already strong backcourt.

Yes, Russell has all the pieces back to repeat. But I think with the expierence Elliott County gained last year, and the tough loss Ashland took, Russell will have a harder time winning this year than they did last year. Looking at the player rankings, I think they were pretty good for the most part. I think Haney and Gill may be a little high but deserve to be in the rankings. I think Mcdavid is a little low. But overall, good job and I enjoyed reading it.

NO! Great job to everyone who contributed! Nice work!

So, you're saying that the top-ranked team in the region and last season's champs CAN'T repeat? Even as huge a homer as you are can't really believe they have no shot! You're a funny little guy!:D
