I don't think anyone is off the UK bandwagon. I think they're off the Tubby bandwagon.

 

I'm as fervent a UK fan as there is, but you have to start questioning Tubby at this point. That being said, no matter who is coaching UK, I'll pull for them, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy with the results.

 

FYI: Tubby is averaging just in between the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 during his tenure. It works out to around 13th place. To me as a UK fan, thats a few spots too low over a 9 year period, but not as bad as some folks make it out to be.

 

Over the same period:

Duke is averaging just past the Elite 8. (~8th place)

UNC is averaging 2/3s of the way to the Sweet 16 (~22nd place)

UCLA is averaging barely out of the second round (~30th place)

You are correct, not as bleak as some would think and others, including myself would like to see UK in the Final Four every year.

You are incorrect. I never said the winning % was better. I only posted what it was. It is not as bad as you wanted others to believe. You also do not have to explain to others that you are a Tubby hater!!! It is obvisious by reading your post. Your only giving the UK program a hard time due to your dislike for OTS nothing more, nothing less and everyone who has read these post can figure it out!!! As for Tubby & I being alike, I appreciate that very much. Tubby is a great man of character and to be included in his company is a positive however, this thread is not about me or you so I will just refrain from the personal attacks. OK, now I'm just confused. You never said his winning % was better. That's fine. But you implied it. Why else would you point out that his % was 4th? That doesn't make sense. Pitino took the team when 10-15 losses was the norm and built it to where 3-5 was normal. Tubby has taken a team where 3-5 losses were normal and pulled it down to where 10-15 are normal. Yeah, I don't see a decline there.

 

Anyway, about saying your comment was stupid, you implied that since I don't go to games, that I'm not a fan. Don't deny it. That's what you said. I mean, why else would you say that, if that wasn't what you wanted to imply. So I said that statement was stupid, because people can live in other states and still be fans, even though they're not able to go to games. I know that to be true, because I have family in Texas and they love UK, but don't get to attend any games.

 

Saying that you and Tubby are the same wasn't exactly a comment. I was implying that you're both happy with a bunch of regular season wins and not doing anything in the tournaments. Lots of teams do that. Especially from the mid-majors. They get 25 wins a season and make the tourny to get bounced in the first or second round. Their winning % is probably close to his. But if that makes you happy, then I'm glad for you.

What is Tubby's overall record while @ UK? How far has his teams gotten in the NCAA tourny? What's his record in the NCAA tourny with UK? How many sec titles does his teams have? What is his record against Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Florida, Kansas & Tennessee?

I would be interested to see Tubby's record vs these schools. I would venture to say that he is on the winning side of all of them except Duke.

This might make some kind of a point if we were talking about Puke,UNC or UCLA. (I belive the subject was UK) This thread was originally started I believe to compare Tubby Smith and Larry Coker

 

The comparison comes from the perception of a strong start and then declining performance.

 

I think everyone would agree Duke, UNC, and UCLA are the measuring posts (aside from UK) of college basketball, so to see if we're declining, those are the programs to compare yourself to.

 

Anyway, my analysis is that Tubby has done a pretty good job of keeping UK consistent, but MUST have a Final Four run in the next 2 or 3 years or his seat starts getting REAL hot.

 

Hopefully all this gets put to rest with a solid year and an Elite 8/Final 4 run this year to build on for next season which could be great if our freshmen develop like they should.

I would be more apt to take this thread more seriously if it were coming from a Wildcat fan, not a UL backer that loves stirring up the stink..

Then after I said something, you changed it to UK has gotten worse every year since Pitinos players were all gone. Then I showed you that was not true. News flash HRF, Pitino is not at UK anymore. If you want to support Pitino and his team they are located in Louisville....have a nice time. If anyone wants to continue to live in the "Pitino" days at UK thats fine I guess but I would rather support my Cats in the present and future. As I said this thread was not about you or I. I will however respond to your personal comments. I don't deny anything. I never said that you were not a FAN!! That is what you read into the post which is sometimes easy to do. I ask the questions of how many games you went to to see if you have seen them play or just making yor comments from hearsay or the post on this message board. It is good you are a fan but when you complain about every negative thing in a program you only make it easy for the UK haters to sit back and laugh at your program that you say you support. Have your say if you wish, it is what this is set up for. I'll have mine also.

I'm not sure HRF is supporting Pitino, because I share his same view on this problem. Me personally I wouldn't take Pitino back at UK for the world after what he has done by coming back to coach at UL. What I would take is someone who demands perfection like Pitino in at coach for UK.

Also if Tubby SMith does have another down year he just like coker need to be fired.

Unless UK wins the National Championship EVERY year, some "UK Fans" will not or never be happy, with that season. If anyone wants, please go back and add the win totals for the last 3 seasons, see who is in the top 5 and tell me when was the last time, a team repeated as National Champion in the last 10 years.....anyone?

Imo this is one of the problems of fans of all teams, not just UK. What does it matter how many NBA players that a college team produces? I am not trying to cut you at all Eagle'01 but I think that this is becoming a big problem all over college b.b.. I personally couldn't give a crap less about ther NBA. Again, no cut or sarcasm intended, just that I don't think that producing "NBA" players is a main criteria for college basketball. In a way I think that this theory all over the country (no one in paticular) is bringing the game of college b.b. down. JMO

I see where you are coming from oldrambler. It's just that in most cases if you have NBA caliber players on your team you are going to have a really good college team. Just take a look at Florida
