There was another player from Harrodsburg that went to Ohio State and eventually transferred back to EKU. The name Yeast doesn't ring a bell but maybe my bell has been rung one too many times to remember.

 

That was Julius.

 

Jason Dunn played TE for the Colonels in the early 90's- he also played at Harrodsburg. He then went onto have very good NFL career at TE. Played several years for the Eagles and Chiefs I believe?

That '96 DL coined themselves "Death Row"- a spin off the then popular "Death Row Records" (Tupac, Shug Knight, Dr. Dre) turned football purposes and rightfully so.

 

All four DL on that '96 team signed D1 scholarships and all went onto have very good college, even professional careers in Dennis.

As wild as the second grade thing is, being honorable mention all state at age 11 is even wilder.

Dennis Johnson and Julius Yeast were also pretty solid on the hardwood. Harrodsburg won the 12th Region one of the years they were there.

1996 they won the 12th region. Beat Boone county in the first round by 6-8 points then lost to Lexington Catholic and Shawn Fields in the semi-finals. Harrodsburg led that game at the half by two but went on to lose by 20 plus.

I think 3rd but I'm not sure. They were put in as running backs. Derick would lead block and Dennis would carry the ball. He was 5'7" or 5'8" at that time it seemed.

One thing not mentioned was that Dennis at about 6'4" and 250 lbs won the HS triple jump (or maybe it was longjump) three years in a row. Memory fades a little at '73; but, recalling D. Johnson's athletic ability burns brightly.

Wasn’t Shawn Fields a transfer who was from Harrodsburg?

If I am not mistaken Dennis Johnson is the current AD at Woodford County and he has done an outstanding job of assembling top notch talent coaching different sports at Woodford County.

I believe Fields was from Harrodsburg now that you mention it.

 

 

 

Dennis has an outstanding son in 8th grade, Jasper Johnson who currently goes to Southern Middle in Lexington. Would think he will be a Yellow Jacket sooner than later.
