Before Stoops Oklahoma was going through rough times, Before Carroll USC had some down years, Even your beloved Irish has struggled recently before Weis....Alabama is just going through a rough time in their great history, they will be back on top. What do you have against Bama anyways other than being an Irish fan? I've got nothing at all against Bama. I've actually got a book of Bear's quotes on my coffee table. What I do have a problem with is fans that are too blinded to realize that this isn't the same program. Fans that make ludicrous quotes like Alabama Larry when he says that if they want a certain coach they'll get them. If that were truly the case Mike Shula would never have been hired, NCAA sanctions or not, you KNOW that. The fact is Alabama is not the job that it used to be, its only the 2nd best program on the Bama campus (the basketball team has been much better recently), the 2nd best program in the state, the 3rd best program in the SEC West and the 6th best program in the SEC. I'm simply saying that at the present time there is no reason to think that Alabama can get "whoever they want" like Alabama Larry wants to thing and there will be no quick fix to this situation. It is going to take a 5-8 year commitment to turn this program around--something that the fan base has been unable to stomach. I have the same problem with the UK basketball fan base.
November 30, 200619 yr I would have to agree. My son lives in Alabama and is a bit more of a realist than most Bama fans. They tend to live in the same dream world as most UK basketball fans. We wonder why every kid isn't knocking down the door to play for UK, and of course we blame it all on Tubby. Things just aren't the way they were 20 years ago when Bama probably could just pick who they wanted as a coach, and we were turning away good b-ball players.

You are not invested into the program as myself and KY, and thats OK. Its our coaching situation. Again who do you pull for in college football? Digger, oh Boy, I love that guy he is so good. Coach Spurrier's age and the fact he talked to the NCAA a few years ago. None of this guys are considered and thats what you "Bashers" don't get. Thats just fans flapping their gums. None of these guys were offered. Jim Tressel, Pete Carroll, Mack Brown they will not leave their programs and I don't blame them. Here is the thing, you never know who you get. Look at UK B-Ball. Are the true diehards really happy with Tubby? Coach Shula had a chance to change some things and chose not to and after barely beating Florida International and Duke at home (0-24) and losing to Mississippi St. at home. Vandy by 3, Ole Miss in OT.

How about Alabama try a little class and give a coach a chance to turn it around. Shula had sanctions to work through. Not saying they should have hired him to start with but give the guy a chance. Alabama will have a hard time getting a big name coach to take that job after their run through coaches since the Bear.

November 30, 200619 yr JMO but a lot of times when a coach says he "isn't interested".....look out,:eek: He is probably waiting on the call and packing his bags. I feel certain that Bama will get a quality coach and I hope that they do.

I am a Ohio State football and UK fan and also a SEC fan with Bama and UGA football being my other favorites. Imo you are correct about UK and Bama beating UT up physically but didn't on the stat that matters.

I don't know how many times I have seen that in the past in all sports. Bama will get a good coach, I have no doubt on that. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!:thumb:

I live near enough to BAMA country to hear the local sports talk shows and most everyone here agrees...BAMA brings it on theirselves. Fans badmouthing, unrealistic expectations, chatboards being lit up, (eerily similar to UK fans and administration) He would have done MUCH BETTER if he would have just gotten an Offensive Coordinator. But, His first year was the toughest. 4 wins but under HORRIBLE circumstances. 2nd year was decent. got 6 wins..not bad. He fought through sanctions He had a great season last year. 2 losses on overtime (one to super tough arkansas) 4 losses to top ranked teams. A ROOKIE QB in the tough SEC Other side of the coin. Because I'm objective..... 5 str8 losses to AUBURN. (dont let anyone fool you how important that is) 2-15 against Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU and Tennessee 3-15 against SEC teams with winning records 4-13 against nationally ranked teams. 8 - 19 against teams with winning records 18 - 2 against teams with losing records Alabama keeps losing at the end of the season. 4 years is a decent amount of time - but since he had a good season last year to try to see what he could do.
