Who cares if they played at Mercer or if they played at Harrodsburg last year? This year they ALL play for the TITANS! They are ALL one team with one goal - winning a state championship.

If the orignal plans of the fieldhouse knew that the merger was going to happen, I CAN PROMISE you that the fieldhouse would have been a lot bigger than what it is now!! That is a fact!! Who cares about the two school being two diff. school its done and over with,So to everyone the KHSAA was worng for letting it all happen,its no one fault from Mercer co. or Harrodsburg, So just let the kids play cause who ever wins or loses can say this we made it here and the rest of the state didn't,So I have seen both teams play and and i will say this the game will be a hole lot closer than everyone thinks,It Will be there better team that wins,and i think that Russell is the better team so it will be Russell 28-Mercer 21 So lets go red devils bring it back home for a back to back win.

They are no futher east or west than they were last year. They are in the same district as last year. The KHSAA changed the playoff format this year. The regional matchups are going to change every year from what I can tell. Mercer playing OC had nothing to do with the merger or Mercer's schedule had everything to do with new playoff format.

I can almost guarantee that winning a state title in football was not discussed in the merger. People didn't realize how good Mercer actually was until 3-4 weeks into the season.

 

I am trying to remain out of this conversation, but from ym personal experiences dealing directly with the administration at Mercer County High School I will say that from my undertsanding this is a false statement.

 

I specifically remember dicussing how good the Titan team will be the day that the Herlad-Leader preview had been released, and jokingly mentioning how Belfry was ranked ahead of them. People knew how good they would be, in fact as good of a common interest story as it was, I am willing to bet it is a large reason why the LHL did such an elaborate article on them and dedicated a full page picture.

 

I will also go on record as saying that in no way does this mean that I think it was an entirely planned move by all parties involved... I honestly feel that sports played a part in the decision, to assume it was the driving force is ignorant for anyone to assume. For such a large undertaking as moving a consolidation a year ahead in planning simply based on a sports team's success would be very unwise, and from ym delaing with the MCHS administration and school board, these are not people who would make stupid decisions. They are very professional and genuinely look for the student's best interest.

 

But for ANY poster to deny that sports played somehwat of a role is biased and turning their face.... but... the merger was a very calculated and wise move on levels beyond sports that DID benefit the kids.

The KHSAA moved Corbin District to the east and Mercer to the west. Russell and Belfry needs to be happy that the former PC./former KHSAA Pres. took care of that before he left or Russell would have been at home 2 weeks ago and Belfry would have made it to last week.

That's funny no matter how you put it. Do you know for a fact that Russell would have been put out 2 weeks ago. NO. Do you know for a fact that Belfry would have went out last week? NO!

 

Remember the last time the Scotties faced a Russell team? I do. Of course there are some that seem to think that Mercer would have won had they been healthy.

I think the question most Russell fans have, is that why didn't they keep the football teams seperate when they knew how much trouble it was gonna cause, you already said that 9 teams were left without games, some got new ones, some didn't. That means some seniors from those teams got shorted on how many games they get to play, and each one means alot to every player. With the change of classes next yr, it would have been perfect to come in as a merged team, no games would have had to of been dropped. Your number of students are atleast 60% more of our total students. That could mean another player of Clark, Jones, Wills or Frazier's caliber. If not all 4 when you add that many more students. Sure would like to have 4 more of them.
