Devils and Mercer game will be back and fourth ..... Running wide on the Devils won't happen ... Running inside on the Devils won't happen. Penalties will kill you against the Devils. Mercer's season long - 5a monkey will be very heavy .... This will be a very close game ..... Devils showed much better than even I thought ... Coaching has these kids playing at a high level ..

Nice game against OC .... good luck to both teams

It will happen my friend.....that you can be sure of.

The 5A monkey is the best friend we have...we wouldn't get rid of it for the world. When you see the fire in these players eyes....don't wonder where it came from.....the monkey started it.

You know I really didn't care much about the outcome of this 2A game until I began to read the arrogance in some Russell poster's words. I too expect it to be close but the arrogance is amazing.

Forget the monkey bring the 5a Scottie ....

The Scottie feels abandoned and puts " the curse of the Bambino - Scottie " on the Titans ...

Remember the Scottie ....

I believe you are going to regret all the 5A talk friday.

Owensboro Catholic's starting quarterback didn't play Friday night. Their tailback, Stewart Ijames, played quarterback most of the night. He really seemed out of synch with his receivers, which would make sense since this was his first start.

As for Catholic's pass blocking, I thought it was really good. I didn't see a whole lot of penalties. Mercer might have got flagged several times, but many of those penalties were obvious holding penalties. They also had some movement on the line that was called a couple times. I thought the officiating was fine- it didn't win or cost anyone the game.

As for Mercer's offense, they were phenomenal in the first half. So much quickness at tailback and even fullback, but they looked really good in the passing game. I don't think Catholic was expecting that. In the second half, it seemed like the Titans got really conservative with their play calling and Catholic started to tackle a whole lot better.

If Mercer County doesn't beat Russell, I'll be very surprised. The thing that would concern me about Mercer going in is the possibility of their eyes getting big on the state championship stage, a place Russell has already been. With that being said, a real early prediction: Mercer County 28, Russell 14.

Anyone got the stats? How many rushing and passing for Mercer, and how many for OC.

Just a guess, but I'm saying Mercer County - a whole bunch, O'Cath - not so much

I didn't know the Advocate did a Saturday paper. This is off of amnews.com.

I think you will notice that most of the "arrogance" comes from 1 or 2 posters...

Russell fans are very proud of their history but MOST realize how difficult it is to maintain a high level & are humble about it just as Coach McGlone is...You will never hear him or the majority of Russell fans gloat or talk down to other programs...Most of us "old timers" ( I guess I am becoming one of them, ouch) have seen the ups and downs and APPRECIATE the success we have enjoyed...It's that simple...Been there, done that, act like it and show some class...Unfortunately, all fan bases have those who can give the ENTIRE program a black eye...They see the world through school-colored glasses...Ours is no different...I believe, with few exceptions, any team that has ever played us or come to our place will tell you how well & respectful they were treated by the Russell people...The administration on down take pride in that & athletic director Sam Sparks makes sure that happens at every Russell home game...

I am no Red Devil apologist so take my post as you will...Just as we don't judge other teams by a few of their more zealous fans, we wish to not be judged by ours...We realize that we are the underdogs this week and it will take an even better performance than the one we gave last night against a very good Belfry team to have a chance at winning...I will not be offended or surprised if anyone picks us as HUGE underdogs...Why wouldn't they based on how Mercer Co has "walked" through the competition?

Mercer will probably continue to hear the 3A or 5A banter from some...We understand it is what it is and you didn't select this situation...No one has ever blamed you and there won't be an asterisk on the KHSAA record book if you win on Friday and 20 years from now few will even care...Bottom line, if you win, you will have earned it...But, you also have to understand and try not to be offended when others do have an issue with the "perceived" unfair advantage you were given this year by the KHSAA...Again, not your fault and this poor horse has been beaten beyond death but any Mercer fan who can look at the situation objectively has to understand why MANY others feel it is unfair...I really didn't want to go here but it is the hot topic of the year in 2A football...

Russell will come ready to play & we'll just have to see what happens...The old saying goes, "To be the best, you have to beat the best"...The BEST from last year is back this year to defend their title against the "best" this year...Will we win? Do we have a chance?? Anytime you step on the field you have a chance...I am confident the Russell coaches & players are approaching this game to win it, not just stay close...See you Friday!!

Man you crack me up....I am bringing you a Scottie Friday. PM me and tell me where to hook up with you. Too funny....

This game is going to be the best of the four IMO. The class of 2A trying to hold off the up and comer. I think we have the horses to compete with you all this year......but we'll have to play our best game of the year.

To me there is no underdog going into this one. I give it even odds...

Mercer's defense overwhelmed OC. Mercer even overcame some of the worst group of officials, Mercer has 12 penalties and OC only 2.

True, they tried to keep it close, it should have been 64-0.

Sounds like there is no where to go on Russell. We will see this is not Belfry these guys can FLY!!!

Will Mercer be the defacto Co-4A state champion?;)
