The 37-1, 9th Regional champions Beechwood Tigers take on the 28-6, 10th Regional's Montgomery County Indians at 4:00 Saturday at Whitaker Bank in the Sectional game of the KHSAA State Championship.

Having not seen MC at all, and BW numerous times, my analysis is strictly based on the scoreboard stats as listed on the KHSAA website. Subjectively, the consensus among most baseball people is that the 10th Region was unquestionably weaker than past years, while the 9th lacked the overpowering mound presence of prior years and BW's exceptional record came via solid defense, strong offense, and sound fundamentals.

Comparing the teams offensively: BW has an edge in many key areas. Avg. .382 vs .344; Slugging .552 vs .459; Walks/K's 1.38 vs 0.72; OB% .628 vs .512. Easy to conclude that BW is more disciplined, hits for both higher avg and power, and gets on base more often. Both teams baserunning skills appear comparable with MC successfully stealing 92% of their attempts vs BW's 89%.

Comparing each team's Top 3 pitchers and season stats: BW (1 sr., 1 jr. & 1 fr.) while MC (1 sr, & 2 jrs). ERA BW 1.75 vs 1.85; Record BW 24-0 vs 21-6; WHIP MC 1.14 vs 1.28; K's per 7 innings MC 6.89 vs 5.49; W's per 7 innings MC 2.50 vs 2.56. It is obvious that both teams pitching is very comparable with few walks and not a dominant amount of strikeouts.

Based on my comparison, I believe this game can swing either way in a tightly contested game with the defense getting a lot of opportunities to shine. I have to go with the Tigers defense and their solid offense making the final difference in an 8-6 nail biter. What say you BGPreppers?

Beechwood can flat out hit. They have athletes up and down their lineup. Gotta go with Beechwood in this one.

Taking Beechwood. Very impressive to only lose 1 game in baseball.

I agree and remember that one game was more like an exhibition game than a real game.

I will not be able to attend but I will be pulling for my Tigers. They have had such a great year and I hope it continues past this weekend. Let’s Go Tigers!!!!!!!

The question is what is Montgomery County's #1 pitcher like. Beechwood will be seeing him tomorrow.

As I mentioned, I have not seen Montgomery Co. and the KHSAA website stats make it hard to conclude who the Indians #1 is. They have 3 pitchers with very similar work loads and pitch counts. My guess would be Jr. Tyler Jacobs at 7-1 with 2 saves will be their horse. ERA is a stellar 1.33, WHIP of 1.21, 59 Ks versus 26 BBs in 58 innings pitched averaging 15.6 pitchs per. Or, it could be another Jr. Seth Adams with an 8-3 record and 6 saves. ERA is 1.82, WHIP of 0.95, 68 Ks and only 16 BBs in 61.2 innings averaging 13.8 pitcher per. Their #3 pitcher is not far behind these two.

On the Beechwood side their workhorse is Jr. Noah Carter with a 12-0 record. ERA of 1.55, WHIP of 1.11, with 64 Ks and 19 BBs over 67.2 innings averaging 15.2 pitches per. Fr. Brett Holladay sports a 7-0 record and 2.03 ERA, WHIP of 1.27 with 23 Ks and 12 BBs over 48.1 innings at 13.3 per.

Is "Noah Carter" a new player?

Otherwise ... I think you mean Carter Noah.

When you get 73 and are posting on BGP at 4:12 in the morning, you can't be held accountable for much.

Montgomery Co up 1-0 after 2. Unearned run. Walk. Errant pickoff attempt by Noah gets runner to 3rd. Scores on a groundout.

1-0 after 3. Beechwood has put 2 runners on each inning but can't get the RBI hit. Beechwood's Devin Johnson has been intentionally walked in both his at bats.

Montgomery County's defensive strategy is making their coach look like a genius thus far. Shifting their outfield and Beechwood is hitting everything right to them.

Leadoff double by Noll wasted in top 4. Odom line shot to right center for out 3. Montgomery Co playing a 4 man outfield on Odom and Castleman.
