redevil78
Probably the biggest crowd we have had. Our opening night, the Pike County Bowl, 2005 against Henry Clay may have been larger. But if it was, it wasn't by much. Russell crowd was loud and into the game. Much respect on our side for our mirror image program on your side. :thumb: Back at ya! :thumb:
Russelldad
Absolutely beautiful night for football. I must compliment all the amenities the CAM offered. It is a beautiful complex. I agree maybe a portal potty a couple of extra portable concessions might have helped, but probably only needed for the larger games like last night. I want to also say thanks to all the belfry BGP'ers who helped us "lost boys" find the best routes there to the game. Your directions were super. It is nice to be able to post for a whole entire week and not get one closed because of tempers or bad comments. Belfry players, played terrific and hard until the end. Hats off to them and Coach Haywood. The obvious trio of Clark, Jones and Wills were awesome, but as someone else said several players made key plays throughout the game (i.e. #38 Bailey, #20 Frazier, #53 Foster, #10 Wells) and I know I'm leaving out many more. It was also good to see #11 Nick Lewis back running the ball again. Made some nice gains along with #9 Beekman at the slot position. #18 Sizemore had a good game punting as well too. It's back to Pizza Box for an early Friday morning showdown with # 1 Mercer. With the way our defense played last night, if we can duplicate that effort at L'ville, WHO KNOWS !! Love, Ya Devils. You have made us proud. TO FBALL: --> The "fire is still in the belly" :thumb: :thumb:
oneijoe
Russell did a great job on holding down Belfry's first down yardage. That's an important key vs. Haywood's option attack. Put another way... the fullback must be stopped first. I must say, though, it seemed really weird to hear these two teams running so many pass plays... The playcalling sounded more like a Prestonsburg/Middlesboro game. Congrats to both teams on a lot of good football this year. And good luck to both in 3A next year ! :thumb: Russell...take down the Titans next week !! :ylsuper:
DEVILPRIDE78
WTG RED DEVILS. First thing. I know of a contractor that did a lot of work on the CAM Stadium and let me say. It is a first class facility. As for the Pirates. Way to show heart and Belfry Pride and play to the end. Always an outstanding game when these two match up. Russell's D-Fence was the factor. # 62 Ethan Gullett, one that you don't hear much about, was a real big factor playing nose guard. He was major confusin for the Belfry O and Belfy's #20 can atest to that. #62 has been a big leader this year and sometimes does not receive the credit when due. Way to go Ethan (silent but deadly). #56 Josh Willis is the MAN. What more can you say about this player. He is a TEAM Leader and alway has been and it showed that Russell has a next level and they took it there tonight. # 9 Beekman played a great game on Offense & D-fence. Major runs when they were keyin on #24 Clark and he stepped up and made some major plays and on D-fence his quickness was to much to handle (All Heart). #20 Frazier was the play maker. Good hands 2 TD's. #8 Jones is a solid player and plays with the Devil Pride and never quits. Tyler took some major hits but keep his composure and made some big time plays. WTG. As for the kicking game it appeared that the ball was slow on the snap then slow getting on the block. And it showed when on the approach #23 had to hesitate waitting. Grant me PAT's should be 96% but alot of factors play in hand. #23 Evans is a great kicker and he will get it straight between the uprights. Way to Go Devils an excellant game to watch and let's go to Pappa John's and leave it All on the field. Can wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:fire: :fire: :fire:

Congratulations to the Devils and good luck next week. Hope you guys can get it done against Mercer. Bring home back to back trophies. I love playing the Devils. It is always great to square off against you. Your fans are great and travel well and support your team. Hope we get to do this again next year. :thumb: To Belfry's players, keep your heads up. You had a fine season, you represent your school and your community well. You have accomplished much and we thank you for all the sweat and the pain and the tears and the many many hours of hard work you have put in. You are winners. Don't forget it. Red devils rule
Can someone explain the no call on the safety? I heard someone say it was a touchback because he never had control, but he touched it at about the 12yd line, and then it rolled into the endzone where he jumped on it and slid out of bounds? Wasn't a big factor in the game because Belfry fumbled shortly after, but I was just wandering if that was the correct call. Yes that was the right call you half to have control of the ball,so the ref made the right call, but if he hadn't it didn't matter like you said we got it back on the next play, and my hat goes off to the hole Belfry team and coaches you guys play one hell of a game, and we look to seeing you all next year.:fire: :fire: :fire: :fire:

Belfry Wins
Yeah the no saftey call was the right call. I have one question though and Im not accusing anything Im just confused. When we played Breathitt a few years back we lost on a last second play (reallynever caught the ball but they said he did). He never got his feet down neither but they said because the ball crossed and we made the contact knocking him out of bounds then it was a catch in highschool football. Lastnight the rules was different and I was just wondering which was correct? Honestly though it was most evenly matched Belfry Russell game I have seen yet. It came down to most post on here and we made the mistakes and they made the plays. It was as simple as that. The td by G the questionable safety and the offsides were only questionable calls all night. And the no safety was the right call and probably the touchdown on G. They did miss that offsides call by alot and it gave Russell the early lead but that is no excuse. We cant just make the mental mistakes we made and win. Congrats Russell and good luck next week. iPapi
Personally, I think this was the most enevenly matched game Belfry & Russell have played in the past three years. The Red Devils dominated our Pirates. The truth is that Belfry was outmanned. And honestly, I find more comfort in that as opposed to thinking we coulda, shoulda, or would won had we done something differently. The Pirates are relatively young, and by now they should be hungry for another trip to Louisville, so next year could be different. It really all depends on how this year's sophomore & junior class dedicate themselves in the offseason as to what the chances are like the Pirates will get their. But for now...I really hope Russell goes to Louisville and puts an end to the juggernaut Mercer Co. has been to this point. Let's face it. Whoever won this game was going to be the underdog and nobody likes the fact that Merger Co. found a way to "defunct" the system. I'm a Red Devil fan this week coming.
DEVILPRIDE78
Always a Great Game. The no Safety call was the right call. The Belfry player called for a fair catch and touched the ball insueing it went out of bounds out of the end zone. It should have been Russell ball on the 20 yrd line. All in all it was a good called and a hard fought game. Stay focused Russell and dig deep and get that DEVILPRIDE and show Mercerburg something they have not seen yet this year. :fire: :fire: :fire:

The muffed punt became a touchback as soon as it crossed the plane of the goal. It was supposed to be 1st and 10 Belfry at their 20...and it was. I'll admit, I didn't know this was the high school rule until the other thread discussed it. As it is, it is impossible for a muffed punt or KO (ie...the receiver never has control of the ball) that goes into the endzone to be anything other than a touchback !!
