2019 Kentucky Derby

Featured Replies

I didn't see a thread on this, so I thought I'd start one.

Anyone going? Who does everyone like for the race?

I'll be there this year, but only on Saturday.

I think there are 8-10 horses this year that have a chance. I personally like Game Winner, Omaha Beach and Plus Que Parfait.

Yep, I'll be there.

I know the derby is a "big deal" here in Kentucky but I have no interest at all in it.

I'm going home for the weekend, but not going to the track. I did my time in the infield and standing in the paddock. I'll return when I feel like shelling out the cash for a seat.

As for the race itself, hard not to like Omaha Beach here, at least on first glance. I have not really paid attention to the preps and will spend some time this week watching the replays and hopefully looking at a PP sheet or two.

I get it, for those who don't live in Louisville especially.

Don't get me wrong. I will "drink em down" at a Derby Party if I get invited, I will watch the race if it is on, and I will even engage others about horse racing but at the end of the day it is not my thing.

Most years I couldn't care less about the actual race. It's all the events leading up to Oaks and Derby. Those two days are holidays around here.

Me too, I am cool with any event that a lot of thought and planning goes into because they are normally fun.

Not me...I like the race itself. Let's see how the post position draw plays out tomorrow. They're saying the favorite---Omaha Beach?---could go off at 6-1 or higher. It will be a challenging race to handicap. With no big favorite who do you box on an exacta or trifecta? I hope the weather is dry for a change. Really looking forward to the race....and really the entire card on Derby Day.

Looks like another wet one......

Haven't really done much research yet but at first glance I'm leaning towards Roadster.

Omaha Beach has been scratched because of a throat ailment---entrapped epiglottis. Tough luck for trainer Richard Mandella who had a real chance for his first Derby win and for jockey Mike Smith.

I’m going with Roadster too...even before I heard Omaha Beach is a scratch.

Tough break, but that’s horses.

One thing about Roadster I don't like is Mike Smith has been his jockey the last year. Geroux is a good jockey but have to consider he's not raced Roadster. I'm wondering if Baffert will try to make a change now that Omaha Beach has scratched.
