The 2019 Kentucky High School Football season can't get here soon enough!

Well you have 4 teams that played for a state championship last year on this list. I have Boyle there because their core has more D1 athletes than any other team in 4A with almost all of them seniors. Same core that won a title the year before. Anderson is there because they are a 5A moving down, they have 4 of the top 10 to 15 players in 4A, and had an amazing year last year that ended with a fluke 7 turnovers game. It’s just a guess but I think 4A has the most competitive top 10 in the state. Even the 7th best team has the best QB in the state. Come on.

 

Who's the other D1 athletes on Boyle County's team? I know Landen Bartleson and Reese Smith, but who else has D1 offers?

Only 152 days until opening night. I think my math is right but it is late and I'm coming off of 40+ hours of NCAA's since Thursday.

EZ Roller is a Great player but not D1. Reed Lanter another great player. Not D1. Wilson Kelly can play D1. Coming from an Assistant Coach at Boyle.

2. Franklin-Simpson ( think they will be a little lower but Preston has earned the right to be given the benefit of the doubt)

3. Central

4. Johnson Central

5. Corbin

6. Anderson County

7. Lexington Catholic

8. Madisonville

9. Knox Central

10. Franklin County

 

 

This class goes 15-deep! After 4A has been essentially a two-horse race for the last three years it suddenly becomes the most balanced class in the State.

Well I may be wrong then. I know Kelley should play D1. Roller and Lanter I was told by a couple coaches in FCS schools were being looked at and could play at that level. I trust their opinion more than an assistant Hs coach. You could be right though. Roller is shorter and I don’t know what his 40 is. I know Lanter is physically not what’s looked for at a D1 level. I guess we will see where they end up. I know Corbin, Johnson Central, Anderson, and Lex Cath all have D1 kids. JC has at least 2, Corbin at least 2, Anderson 2 to 4, Lex Cath 1. When I say D1 I mean kids I believe have the ability to be D1 players. Not everyone will be because some lack speed that I have know way to know what their times are. Other choose one sport over another, and others are overlooked because they play in KY.

Corbin has at least 3, actually.

Depending on how Lanter does in the camps and on the season I could see him getting D1 attention from teams like WKU.

There is zero doubt in my mind Roller could be a FCS or low level FBS player at the minimum.

Lanter I am not sure I could see at the FBS level simply because he is 100% a pocket passer and there simply aren't a ton of teams looking for that.

 

I could see him at the FCS level though. Very good accuracy and footwork.

 

Colwick is another guy to keep an eye on. He doesnt have the D1 size, but IMHO he was the second best all-around player Boyle had behind Reese. He's the type of kid you may see an in-state FCS school take a shot on at the end of the recruiting period and he pay off.

Glad you all agree. A lot of times in KY D1 kids may not go D1. They may chose another sport, not go to combined or camps, or may just get overlooked because they play in KY and not FL. Trust me Boyle has 5 D1 players. Not all may end up there but they are all that caliber. BTW D1 is FBS and FCS. Next closest program is Anderson with 4 and Corbin with 3 or 4. That’s why I say Boyle has the most.

A lot of talent in 4A this year, I agree it's loaded, I used to be an Assistant Coach at the FCS level many years ago. Kids are just much more athletic and physically strong in High School than they used to be. On the topic of Boyle, we know of 2 players for sure but Kelly is the only other definite D1 player just because of skill and strength,speed by a big guy,the only thing his 6'2 or so height will hurt him a bit, so it will take the right fit. I see Kelly as a kid that plays in the MAC.Most every school at the D1 level has a specific criteria for height,weight,strength,speed,by position if you don't meet those requirements they wont open one's film, so a lot of really good football players are missed out on. That is what hurts lots of really good players and it's out of there control. Colleges these days will say give me 6'5 or so lineman , or a 4.5 or lower 40 and you can play D1 even if you are a average football player. Coaches believe they can coach players up if they are athletes and have the physical attributes.

Gonna be a great season this year in 4A! This class is wide open. I think FS loses a little too much, but still should win district and potentially the region in my opinion. Boyle County should be #1 I think.
