The New Playoff System Is So Bad....

Featured Replies

I think there have been alot of times where the best 2 teams don't meet in the finals....For example, Belfry/Russell have been the best 2a teams the last 2 years and play in the semifinals...Danville/Mayfield have had years they were the best 2 and met in the semis...At least with the rotating regions, there'll be years where you could see these type games in the finals instead of the semis...There'll be years where it'll still be a ST X/Trinity final...All depends on the luck of the draw for that particular year...I like it myself...

Yeah, Trinity is terrible.

How can you say that for one Highlands lost not once but twice to a better CCH team. Same with Male? they lost to a BETTER team-Trinity
Man, aren't we all sensitive? I don't think becharger1 was referring to Trinity with that statement, but was referring to the other three teams that are still alive in 4A.
Let me see if I see this right -

The cream came to the top as it always does.

The four surviving teams in each class are all pretty good teams.

Teams didn't have to travel as much early in the playoffs.

Teams from near each other played early to generate ability for fans to see games easier.

The one vs. four games in the first round weren't very good, and never are.

I am still searching for the "real" problem in the revised playoff brackets.

It's a playoff system. Bottom line, no matter who you play, you have to win four times in a month in a row to play in the final game.

I hate to say it, maybe this isn't so bad.

:thumb: Nicely said.

I'm not a huge fan of the new play-off system either but you can't say that no one is better than a team if they lost.

I agree. Another problem about this playoff system is that teams like CCH have to travel to Lex Cath and JC, but they are ranked higher than them??? I dont agree on that!

Depends on which poll you choose to look at...

That was the same in the old system. Here's my point all along. They can change the format, and it will still work just fine. I'm not saying that it's better than the old system, only that it isn't any worse as some would like to claim...

Quit crying about who you had to play. You got to play who is lined up in your bracket. If you win you are the best team if you don't then you weren't.

If you are going to use rankings to justify who gets a home game, you might as well limit the number of teams in, take regular season district champs and then use the rankings to fill out the rest of the brackets. And that's about as likely to be used as it would be for the sky to start raining blood.

Ranked by whom???

JC is undefeated and a #1 seed.

Any other ranking is absolutely subjective.

Yeah they are undefeated, but look at the teams JC played in the regular season. It would be pretty sad if they were not.

I am so surprised...You completely missed the point.

Rankings have nothing to do with where the games are played, period.

You are off topic, BTW.JC strength of schedule has nothing to do with the "New Playoff System is so bad", which is the thread topic.

Here we go again

How do they chose where the games are being played?

I still dont like it. The only thing I have liked about it is that it gave 4A NKY a better chance, but that is the only thing that I like about it.

I know in 1A its definitly not fair for the teams in the district with NCC and Beechwood, because the other teams are usually pretty good to, but will only get knocked out in the first round. Just look at HC they one of the best in the state, but instead had to play one of the other best teams in the state in the first round. In 4A we had the best teams playing in round 2 and now round 3. While in the old system we probably would have still got to see these matchups but in later rounds actually.

Look at 1A in the old system it would have been like this in the 2nd round

Beechwood vs. Raceland (maybe Holy Cross)

NCC vs. LCA

which both these games would have still drew very large crows, and then the next week would have also drew a huge crowd for no matter what teams won. So in the end it probably would all equal out in attendance in both ways, except you see could keep the old rivalries with the other districts. I know that is one thing I really like was seeing 4 schools from each district playing each other, and getting to see teams you haven't seen yet. We still would end up seeing all these great matchups against each other, but also still have the rivalries over a whole district playing against another one.

So as I said I still dont like this new system...

How do they chose where the games are being played?

KHSAA handbook...pg 66

5) For the semi-state round (fourth round), the champion

of region 1 will play the champion of Region 2 while the

champion of Region 3 will play the champion of Region 4.

The team representing the even-numbered Region shall

host the games in even-numbered years, while the team

representing the odd-numbered Region shall host the

game in odd-numbered years.
