I would like you to approach it from the context of what is good scheduling for a Kentucky 6A school.

 

We all know Simon Kenton usually plays a pretty suspect non-district schedule most years.

Looking at Cal Preps, Anderson would be #3 in 6A and Oak Hills #11 so they would be good teams in KY.

Lets go with Simon Kenton vs the two teams they have scheduled.

Last year Cincinnati Oak Hills was 3-7.

They did beat a 9-1 East Central, Ind(Would be D-2 in Oho) and a 6-4 Dayton Dunbar (D-3). The other win was against Hamilton (1-9) and it was by just seven points.

 

My thoughts on Simon Kenton playing them, is this is not a game that will do much for them, if recent history is true. Simon Kenton is a much better team and should have no problems winning this game.

 

The Anderson(D-2) game I.M.O. should be a good game and I.M.O. is a good game for Simon Kenton and most other D-5 and D-6 teams in Kentucky.

 

Now I think you and I agree Ohio top big schools vs Kentucky top big schools, in any combination would be games to watch.

 

Lets take travel time out of the equation and go with what I think would be good match ups.

 

Colerain would be my first choice for any of the Kentucky big boys to play.

My reasoning is, one they give you a look you have to be prepared for, because it isn't as popular as it once was. two, their speed. You have to search long and hard to match it, especially in this state.

 

Staying in the Cincinnati area.

People will always want to throw in the big three (Even though they are not what they once were, even a few years back) Elder, Moeller and St Xavier. I.M.O. Seeing those schools matched up against Louisville St Xavier, Louisville Male and Louisville Trinity might draw well but does nothing for me. So lets go with some other teams(Even thought I will give you those schools in any combo are still good schedule, on both sides of the river)

 

I could get very long winded on this but will keep it somewhat short.

Schools like Simon Kenton,Frederick Douglass,Scott County and again any of the Louisville big three, would I.M.O. schedule good, if they had any of these schools on their schedules.

Not lets go deeper into Ohio as far as who I think would make for good schedule, for the Kentucky 6-A schools.

Cleveland Area (Staying with D-1 Ohio Vs D-6 Kentucky)

1-Mentor- Public school, who does nothing but win games.

2- Lakewood St. Edward- Private school, who wins a lot and is always in need of games.

3- Cleveland St Ignatius- Private school, who might not win at the clip they once did, but still a nightmare to play.

Columbus Area

1-Pickering Central- Public school, who wins even though they have another D-1 school, who is decent in the same town.

2-Dublin Coffman- They have three schools in their town and they are almost always one of the better teams in the Columbus area.

3-Hilliard Davidson- Three schools in Hilliard and this team almost always finds a way to make deep playoff runs,with an offense that runs like 90% of the time, but in a much different way then Colerain.

 

I could add some lesser teams, that might be classified as good scheduling for the top Kentucky big schools in the eyes of many, but I tried to go with what I thought would be, if you will money games.

Looks like Johnson Central is on the schedule now for September 27th. Great matchup to add onto both of their schedules.

The Pioneers couldn't make things work out with their schedule while keeping the George Rogers Clark game on there, which was originally scheduled for Sept 20th. So Simon Kenton substituted a home game against Taylor County for the 20th, and has filled in the remaining spot on their schedule with an away game against Little Miami (OH) on Nov 1st.

A very interesting schedule for '19. It's been a while since we played an Ohio school (Middletown) and now we have three of them.

They are playing Highlands on September 13. But otherwise, no non-district opponents from northern Kentucky.

I like it when teams/coaches mix it up and play some new teams.

 

And from looking at the schedule, Coach Marksberry has to be pretty optimistic about the Neers this year.
