HammerTime Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Here is a short video the Reds put out... Twitter
HammerTime Posted January 16, 2019 Author Posted January 16, 2019 @m_sheldon Mark Sheldon Big news: Marty Brennaman has announced that 2019 will be his final season calling #reds games. He has been calling games for the club since 1974 and is Frick Award winner at the HOF.
ChickenWyngz Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I will always remember my childhood evenings with the radio in my room tuned to 700WLW listening to Marty and Joe call a game. I hope he enjoys retirement.
UKMustangFan Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 About 5-10 years too late, but glad to see the end is coming.
HammerTime Posted January 16, 2019 Author Posted January 16, 2019 I still enjoy listening to Marty most of the time. It will be weird not hearing his voice during the games.
Randy Parker Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I still enjoy listening to Marty most of the time. It will be weird not hearing his voice during the games. Same here.
Colonels_Wear_Blue Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I really am nostalgic about listening to Marty & Joe on The Big One when I was a kid, and it will be weird not hearing him at all any longer. But I'm with UKMF...it was overdue. I think Marty would probably have left a better legacy had he done this 5-10 years ago.
swamprat Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Another fixture from my youth goes by the wayside.
ChickenWyngz Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 My favorite quality of Marty is the one most people liked least. I loved that we still had someone willing to absolutely call out a player for lack of effort, etc. In the society we live in now, we will never see that again. It was always real and refreshing as well.
HammerTime Posted January 16, 2019 Author Posted January 16, 2019 I used to sit out in my drive way at night and listen to the games and hit my wiffle ball onto the roof all night long. :lol2:

It was always real and refreshing as well. His predecessor did the same and I was apprehensive when Al Michaels left and Marty took over. However, Marty did not disappoint.
swamprat Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 I used to sit out in my drive way at night and listen to the games and hit my wiffle ball onto the roof all night long. :lol2: For me, it was hitting rocks out of the gravel drive way with a tobacco stick. My target was to hit the barn about 200 ft from the house. Couldn't see it, but you could hear it when it hit the tin roof.
Pura Vida Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Happy Retirement Marty!! I’m with all of you and your childhood memories. I remember drifting off to sleep as a kid, bedroom windows wide open, hearing the sounds of Marty & Joe on the radio while my parents and neighbors sat outside listening while enjoying a beer on the deck.
Voice of Reason Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Marty has slipped a little the last couple of years but he certainly earned the right to call his own retirement. Please oh please Reds, name Dan Hoard the new play by play guy.
