How do you catch and stop a polecat?

:laugh: Just for reference what exactly is "the polecat spread?" Is it just a spread offense with an adjective attached or what? I'll be interested in seeing it this Friday no matter what:thumb:

After seeing the schedule and the amount of points that LexCath has given up this year, I would think that while LexCath can score, the real question for this game is how in the heck will they stop CovCath from scoring. I know CovCath can stop LexCath more times than not, but can the LexCath fans state (with their record) that they can stop CovCath?

 

Of course we shall see, come Friday night.........:thumb:

The LC defense gives up the big play no doubt about it, but when they blitz 8 or 9 they make things tough.

You cannot blitz CCH with 8 or 9 players. All they need to do is run a quick slant to Bovard, Sutton, or Hennesy/Ganshirt and they are gone one on one unless Revire is on them.

Recent history: Lexington Catholic rallied to beat CovCath 42-39 in the second round of the playoffs last year. The Knights also bounced CovCath from the post-season in 2002. The Colonels knocked Lexington Catholic out of the playoffs in 2004 and 2001.

 

What to watch: CovCath is 9-0 against Kentucky opponents, including a pair of victories over archrival Highlands. The Colonels' three losses were to Ohio teams -- Cincinnati Elder, Cincinnati St. Xavier and Bishop Watterson. CovCath QB Josh Bleser has thrown for 1,721 yards and 19 TDs. TE Pete Sutton has 39 catches for 564 yards and 8 TDs. WR Kurt Bovard has 38 catches for 563 yards and 6 TDs. Brandon Brown and Brent Buckley lead the rushing attack with 1,351 yards and 21 TDs between them. The Colonels have a terrific kicker in Shane Popham, who has 15 field goals this season and a state-record 46 in his career. "They're big, physical and fundamentally sound," Lexington Catholic Coach Bill Letton said of CovCath. "On defense they don't give up the big play, and that's something we obviously like to have." The Knights' big-play attack was on display last week, with Ben Revere turning short catches into TDs of 79 and 72 yards. QB Tyler Hancock has thrown for 2,437 yards and 31 TDs. Wes Caldwell and Revere have combined for 84 catches for 1,343 yards and 14 TDs. Shane Israel has rushed for 1,307 yards and leads the defending state champs with 24 TDs. Nick Vicini and Jacob Locknane are tops in tackles. Tonight's winner plays at Johnson Central or Rockcastle County next week in the Class 3A semifinals.

From my understanding, you will see more of Castaneda at DB tonight...to what extent is still unknown.

Shane Popham doesn't have 46 varsity field goals in his career. However, he does have a shot at breaking Taylor Begley's record for FG's in a year.

Well obviously LexCath won't blitz even 8 wide recievers, I can't imagine any defensive coordinator that would be foolish enough cover 3 wide recievers with the talent that CovCath has man-on-man with no back up to stop the big play. If Revere is so good at covering the slant, CovCath will just run it against another DB. Who else on LexCaths defense beside Revere (what is his number by the way) that I should be watching tonight (their number also please)?

Ok so I could have looked up their numbers on my own, so I'm lazy you caught me A roster, however, doesn't say which players to look for to be making plays; which was what I was really interested in.

Well obviously LexCath won't blitz even 8 wide recievers, I can't imagine any defensive coordinator that would be foolish enough cover 3 wide recievers with the talent that CovCath has man-on-man with no back up to stop the big play. Hey we're just messing with you. Revere is only 5'9 and weighs 150 lbs. he couldn't possibly cover Bovard and company so you probably should throw to his man, after all you do want to go to the other team's strength right? There is nobody else you have to worry about. We give up tons of yards every game and have no defense. The stats don't lie!
