Ashland 17 Mason Co. 0

Featured Replies

Anybody know why Mason Co. was w/o their QB?

I think he was still in the shower trying to wash the mud out of his ears from last weekend, and just missed the bus.

Great job defensively by the Royals, who were on the field most of the night. MC was obviously hamstrung missing the starting QB and also starting WR and safety Tony Browning. Because Ashland was sluggish most of the night, MC still had a chance, down 14-0 and inside the Tomcat 5. Ashland held, end of story. As Phil said, at this stage it's survive and advance; congrats to Coach Hart and the Tomcats.

Thanks Greybeard for the spot-on directions; and thanks especially to Mason County's seniors!

My pleasure mcpapa, I’m glad they worked for you.

I wish we could have played MC at full strength. But, as others have said – survive and advance.

Congratulations to the Tomcats and coaches.

Have the reasons why the QB was out been explained yet? Does anybody know what happened here?

Thanks! Can't believe I overlooked that... Guess I'm still in shock over the QB getting suspended. Though BGPreps may not be the most professional place to state the reasons why the QB was suspended, it appears 'professionalism' and being fair isn't the main priority at MC. I sure hope this doesn't happen to a basketball player during the Regional or State Tourney. Oh wait... I don't think they would dare do that to a bball player! But you better believe, everyone will be watching to make sure that all athletes are handled in the same manner and that all abide by the principal's rules! We sure wouldn't want any discrimination among the sports here!

Congrats to Ashland and good luck next week at JC.Royal seniors you had a very fine year and had an uphill battle here tonite with the suspension and injuries.Good luck to you in your future plans,Now i guess we turned to basketball.Mason should have a very good football team next folks as they return almost everybody and most all skill positions.

From what I know the kid that stole the sacred gameball hasn't been disciplined yet. Why did the administration wait until Wednesday, if ever, to deal with the kid who stole the gameball? I know from a good source that the Cox kid told the other student that he wasn't in the mood and to stop "bad word" messing with him. Shouldn't the kid that caused the situation be dealt with, at least, at the same time as Cox? I heard Cox is a straight A student, a national honor society student, and a great kid. I think the Cox kid would say he should be punished but why did the administration come down so hard on the reaction and not the cause of the problem???????

The defense looked outstanding tonight, maybe it was partly because Cox was out. The offense did look sloppy except I thought when they ran the quick hitters up the middle. Still too many penalties and mistakes, but in the playoffs a win is a win.

Do you think maybe it was partly because Cox was out???? Here's Cox's stats from the first Ashland game:

13 rushes for 90 yards and a TD, 9 of 18 passing for 124 yards and 1 TD,0 ints.

If you remember Cox threw a pass with 3 minutes left that was dropped that would have been a TD to tie it.

It was a supreme effort on Mason's part seeing how coach buchanon didn't find out until around 2:00pm on friday.

Like I told someone earlier. The kid should never have been put in that situation anyway. He was amped over the game anyway and in the heat of the moment let something slip.

I've always had a problem with the current principal anyway. He could not make the most of his opportunity he had. so, I cannot help to think that his hasty decision making led to this.

I've seen and heard things come from this guys mouth that would make you wanna knock his head off.

Just a quick note: let's make sure that we remember we are talking about young people, and let's not be overly critical of any of them involved. Any and all activity that is discussed needs to be kept above board.

It was a bad situation, the administration handled it the way they best saw fit, and right or wrong, it's over. Let's not beat it to death.

Thanks everyone.

To start off with I like to just say that by some of the reply post on this forum it appears some feel I was taking a cheap shot at the coaching staff, I want to be very clear that was not my aim, I was just saying what I felt were the facts.

If I hurt anyone’s feelings I am truly sorry, I am a Tomcat fan and I will be till they put my feet in a box for the last time, that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to say what I think even if some don’t agree with me. But please accept my apologies if I offended anyone.

Review of the Ashland/Mason Game;

We have to start with saying what great job our defense did, they played inspired!

Even with their back to the wall they held their ground and didn’t let Mason score

What more can you say, they did everything well.

I would also like to say something about a kid that I’m afraid that some may have felt I was down on. Andrew Dillon # 58 nothing could be father from the truth, I happen to like this young man a lot and the defensive corner is his natural position and he did a bang up job. I know that Mason didn’t have their first string QB but we still were playing great.

Now for Offence,

Starting the second quarter I think we seen some of the best offensive coaching of the year, we ran a good mix of plays, throwing and running to keep Mason guessing

This was apparent as they starting changing the defense as we moved the ball at will.

The second half I think we played very conservative I don’t think we threw the ball in the second half, but I’m not saying that was a bad thing, we did protect the ball and the Big 5 was handing out some punishment to the defense, by the last period their defense looked tired and we started moving the ball even when they knew what we were going to do.

All in all.. A well played and well coached game.

I would like to say one more thing, I never single out a coach but I feel that I need to say something about a coach that joined the Ashland coaching staff this year, a former Tomcat his self “Coach Hale”

Before this game started Coach Hale gave a motivating passionate speech, he told these young men how much it meant to part of this team and how much he thought of each one of them, in other words how much he loved them, by the time he was done they wasn’t a dry eye wearing a Tomcat uniform, It was clear that these young men felt the same way about him, what ever anger, frustration, or baggage any of them had, they laid it down And let it go, this coach put these kids in a place where they was playing for love the most powerful emotion we all have, we will lay our life down for love and it touched these kids.. What a great coach to have on our team, we are blessed that’s for sure.

If we can keep this feeling going and get pumped for JC I think we can go all the way!

Till the last second of the last quarter I will carry the torch of hope
