So you can’t say Miami is better after three games, but you can say that Wisconsin is in the same time frame?

Miami's precedent is bad, Wisconsin's precedent is good. Miami has to make me trust them, Wisconsin has to make me not trust them. The BYU game gives me pause, but like I said I need to see more to make me think they aren't the same caliber of team they have been for a long time.

How about the conference as a whole? We can debate Wisconsin's status until the cows come home, but has the conference dropped a notch this season? Is it (more than marginally) superior or inferior than, say, the ACC? How would the #1 through the #10 or 12 teams fare head to head?

Wisconsin losers a bunch of starters on defense every year. They are always a senior laden defense. It's never hurt them before. Why should I think will now? One horrific game against BYU? Wisconsin has earned the right to not be judged off of one game.

The bottom of the Big 10 is the worst in the power 5. No debate. Kansas beating Rutgers kind of proves that.

There’s only one B10 that anyone cares about on here. What’s that saying.. “it’s the thought that counts?”

I just gave UKMF multiple examples where that did not occur and we chose not to let one game define a season. It's all about perception. We gave Alabama the benefit of the doubt when they lost to Auburn, We gave Clemson the benefit of the doubt when they lost to Pitt, We gave Oklahoma the benefit of the doubt when they lost to Iowa State. The reason we chose to do this is because these teams have proven to us they are more than one bad game. Wisconsin has proven for a decade that they are a consistently good team. They aren't an elite team like Bama, Clemson, Ohio State. But they have proven time and time again to be a perennial top 20 team year in and year out. That's who they are. So when tasked with comparing that to a team like Miami who lost their last 3 games of the season (including a loss to Wisconsin) last year and over a decade of ineptitude on the football field prior to that, I'm going to pick Wisconsin every single time.

I don't think it's dropped much because I don't think it was great to start with. Yeah they may have a good year but year in and year out it's not at the top. It's OSU and bunch of dudes.

1 game did not keep OSU out. OSU lost two games... if they beat Oklahoma or Iowa they would have been in. You can’t lose 2 games. But I’m not even talking about the playoffs. Neither Wisconsin or Miami were going to be playoff teams anyways.

But Penn State didn’t lose and this same Wisconsin team beat this same Miami team the last time we watched them play and it was pretty convincing.

 

That Wisconsin team beat a injury riddled team in the Orange Bowl. Miami did not have adequate depth last year and played the bowl game without Mark Walton, Ahmmon Richard, Christopher Herndon IV, all #1 players at their position and 2 second team All ACC linebackers in Perry and Gordinier. The players that replaced them were good players but young and inconsistent. Don't underestimate Miami becasue they lost to LSU early. LSU is proving that they are better than people thought they would be.
