Matthews even braces his body weight with his left arm, horrible call IMO.

No sarcasm.

I was stating that ties are already widely accepted by Americans, just looking at the popularity of soccer...particularly youth soccer.

And I believe @Irish Cat was saying that the sarcasm was by @Getslow making the very point about Americans and soccer and sports that may end in a tie that you made, albeit with a tad more subtley. But I can't speak for Irish Cat or Getslow.

This is beginning to get complicated. :lol2::lol2:

NFL upheld that call and said it was text book. That is just crazy by the NFL.

They need to change the rule to 2 hand touch on the QB then...

I'm not much of a Clay Matthews fan, but what on earth could he have done differently to avoid the penalty besides not touching the QB at all?

Nothing. That tackle should be used as a teaching video on how to tackle the QB. Instead the NFL is using it as a teaching video on how not to tackle the QB. I truly do not understand what they want.

It may be a fine hit and all, but the reality of the league is QBs are the NFL. The officials have strict instructions to protect the product. QBs start going out because of vicious hits, and games become unwatchable, channels get turned, and NFL loses $$ and market-share.

It's looking like the NFL wants the tackler to hit the ground before the QB.

He has had four sacks taken away by penalty.

You are correct. I was referring to Getslow's post as the example of sarcasm. Looking back at my post I could have made it more clear what I was referring to. Sorry about that.

That call was horrendous, and the NFL seems to be doing all it can to kill the product; both on the field & off. Really sad to watch a great product poisoned by horrible & inconsistent officiating, unexplainable & understandable rules, outside distractions, etc.

Not sure what any of that has to do with my post, but sure.

You could (and it has been said in the past) say that about any other major sport. People complain about officials at every level down to youth. Lots of fans couldn’t explain the entire balk rule in baseball or offside in soccer, and struggle to comprehend charge/block in baseball. And athletes have used their visibility to protest things for decades. The killing the sport part is pure hyperbole.
