Is Pikeville a lock to play in Lexington?

Featured Replies

What’s your thoughts after last nights beat down of Lexington Christian? They looked like a well oiled machine.

It’s very early still, but with as convincingly of a win as they posted, I’m sure they are a big favorite to. It will also depend on how the playoffs are seeded. As of now, I’d say that Beechwood, Pikeville, and Raceland are well ahead of the rest.

Raceland as the underdog...... I like the disrespect and we relish it.

Pikeville probably is the favorite to come out of the East, according to the "experts". Considering how young they were last season and advancing to the 1A Semi, I wouldn't doubt that a bit. Paintsville, Raceland, Hazard are three that could challenge. I am not as familiar w / some in the other districts but there may be someone there that may make a run.

After all, how many of those "experts" picked Raceland in the '17 championship game ? At this point last season, not many if any were picking Raceland. Truth be told, not even the football crazy Raceland fans including myself thought that our Rams would be there, especially early in the season.

Then again, we know that the ".experts" are always right …. so go with Pikeville. :D

Here's what I will say:

It has been a long time since I saw a Pikeville team look that good in the Pike County Bowl.

Part of it was LCA made them look good, granted, but the combination of size, quickness, and playmakers was very impressive for a 1A team and the confidence/swagger with which Pikeville played on Defense has convinced me the Panthers are going to be very good.

I think it is premature to crown anything, in fact we can get an excellent idea if Pikeville is for real or not in a couple weeks against Paintsville

If Pikeville handles the Tigers with relative ease then I will crown them the prohibitive favorite.

It's got to be the locker rooms.:lol2:

There are no locks but I always love threads like this.

Eager to hear how the game with Paintsville goes next week.

There are at least three teams that have an even chance of beating them in Hazard, Paintsville, and Raceland. Pikeville will have a tougher than average second round game in Lynn Camp or Williamsburg (likely won't lose to either, but it won't be a cakewalk to the region finals). They are the early favorite, but they are not miles ahead of the first three I named.

Give this about 2 more games and we should have a pretty good fix on where things stand. All the top teams have some very tough games coming up the next 2-3 weeks, with common opponents involved in a couple of the games.

I'm still not totally convinced this team is better than the 2015 State Championship team. It's just too early. Daric Pugh along with Chatlin Jarrell made a great 1-2 punch on offense from that team along with a very athletic qb. As for the question, no IMO Pikeville is far from a lock for Kroger Field. Raceland looks good, Paintsville has been very good as of late, and don't forget Hazard.

Whoever wins District 8 (Pikeville, Hazard, Phelps) will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs. That could be a huge benefit for whichever team lands on top of the table.
