I think the Devils met expectations. Played thru injuries but against weak competition. Offense is dominate - in all areas and likely more than any 2a defense can handle... State Championship this year for Devils is based upon an overwhelming offense and a defense that is average up the middle and on containment but full of experienced kids who can play and rally to the football. Coaching always shines thru at Russell.

Season starts in two weeks....

If Devils protect the football , they are going back to the box ... My only concern would be a close game late into the fourth ... other than Ashland we haven't had one ... Also have had no physical test on both sides of the ball all year ....

Hold off on those rings. I know before the season kicked off following the merger that alot of unhappy people around here were saying that the Titans of Mercer were going to have conflicts with playing time. It has to be hard to make a sacrifice with your playing time that you had last year to guys who werent even your teammates last year. Some around here said they would fall apart and be lucky to win half their games. Now, they own our town. They have exceeded big time!

I think McCreary exceeded their expectations... 5-5 is great for them.

I would say that the Harlan Green Dragons have thus far exceeded expectations this year. I don't think anyone anticipated thier defensive prowess. With an on again off again offense, the Green Machine has done a couple things that haven't been done in awhile.

1. Swept Harlan County teams for 2 years running.

2. Beat Hazard ( I know they are down this year, but beating them at home has never been easy)

3. Been ranked among the best in class A in the State in several polls most of the year.

4. Held opposing offenses to an average of 14 points per game. Around 9 from the defense.

5. Held Somerset to 14 points. ( yeah I know wet field:D )

6. Transitioned to a more spread offense in the process.

 

Another team in our district who I believe exceeded was the Williamsburg Jackets. They are in contention for the District title as well.

 

Jury is out, but as I said way long weeks ago when the season was young, these guys play with one heart. There is no "star". They are a team. I'm proud of them for that, no matter what transpires from here out.

Which brings me to my post for Trimble County - "Met Expectations?"

 

I would say that for 98% of the people, Trimble has exceeded expectations, finishing the regular season with a 7-3 record. I am sure that Coach Poynter is not happy with the losses, but is happy with the continued steps in the right direction.

 

For me, as OLDSKOOLPLAYMAKER said, you can't be content with just a winning season. Until we win playoff games, they will not have met my expectations. However, I am proud to go anywhere in the state of Kentucky wearing my blue and gold football attire. Additionally, I am pleased to know such fine young men as not only athletes, but also as students and people.

I would have to say that Mayfield has exceeded expectations coming into this season with a heavy, and I mean a heavy dose of graduating seniors from last years state runner-up squad and playing one of the hardest non-district schedules around the Cards have managed to finish the regular season 8-2 and look to be geared toward another hopeful long run in the playoffs. I am not going to say like some pollsters have that my team is going to state, but as long as the Cards don't become their own worst enemies with silly turnovers then Mayfield should be another hard out here in the playoffs. Should be a fun time and may the best teams win here in the postseason.

Nope, but just answering this post as asked begs for retrospective information. Looking back at most of you good Somerset fan's postings from last week, Harlan was beaten by 40 points. I'd say we exceeded your expectations.:banana:
