What Coach in 1A do you think does more with a lesser talent squad than a coach with a stack roster? Why do you think so?

I’m going to go with Coach Bronger at Louisville Holy Cross. School of about 130 boys and has them in top 10 this year. He also defeated Trinity in 1991 which is pretty impressive for a school that small, although their enrollment was probably bigger back then.

Paul Wiggins at Bishop Brossart has done an amazing job bringing that program back from the verge of collapse.

For me, Brian Washington of Paris immediately comes to mind. He inherited a mess in 2012 - the Greyhounds were 1-30 over the previous three years. Washington promptly won six games in his first year, and is 49-21 overall there, despite working with rosters that number in the high 20's to low 30's every year.

I think there are levels to being underrated and I think Class 1A is ripe

 

Noel Rash- Yeah it is hard to call him underrated when everyone knows his name, but I don't think he truly has gotten the respect he deserves for getting Beechwood back to such a dominant place post Yeagle.

 

Chris MacNamee- For my money Mac is one of the State's elite coaches. He is a great tactician, a great program builder, and a bold coach who is not afraid of taking chances. Pikeville was never in a bad place, but it was at a low spot before he came and now they have a Title and may have another Championship run in the near future.

 

Mark Dixon- Love Dixon and I have the feeling most folks outside of Eastern Kentucky with the exception of Fort Mitchell and Mayfield might not be able to even name who Hazard's Coach is. It is very hard to stay at a consistent high level in Class 1A and Dixon has done that and guided his team multiple times to the Finals.

 

Brian Washington- Now we are talking true underrated guys. He has done a great job under the radar. I knew I wanted to list "Paris'Coach", but even I was going to have to go to the KHSAA to make sure I got his name right.

I think the guy at Williamsburg is underrated. He had them in back to back championships a few years ago, and they are always good. Have you ever been to Williamsburg!? What he has done has been incredible.

I’m going to go with Craig Foley. He has had his fair share of talented kids and several great teams and has always lacked the depth which possible could of took them farther but that’s what happens when u have to play the Beechwoods and the Mayfields of the Class 1A world. Now with emergence of Western Hills somewhat and as a always Franklin County it seems like the players aren’t drawn anymore there.

Herron has made them consistently good

 

The only "knock' on him is I would like to see him get to the Finals with a different team. When you have an exceptional crop of talent in 1A you can make a run, but if you can get there with two different groups that cements that it is not just the talent bu the coaching.

I'm a big Jerry Herron fan. Love the style that they play and what he's done with the program.

I am going with our coach, Mike Salmons. Raceland is a small Independent school with no industry to support the tax base, 62% of households in the district are retired and or disabled and have had less than 5 D1 football athletes in the past 20 years yet we are consistently in the top 5 of 1A schools. Coach Salmons has 2 regional titles and a finals appearance in his 4 years as head coach. So, when speaking of getting the most out of your kids, Coach has to be considered in this topic.

Gotta put a plug in for Coach Hopkins at Nicholas County. Gets so much out of his kids every year and such a great man.

Coach Taphouse of Ludlow has done an excellent job and is a refreshing change for the Panthers.
