All I know is last winter I had lunch at Penn Station and AJ Mayer was grabbing food. He told me he wished they played Trinity with a big smile and alot of confidence. CovCath would have gave Trinity a good game.

 

I agree that Covcath would've given Trinity a good game last year. They were a great team; probably #2 in the state. But Trinity was #1 and I believe they would've won 8 out of 10 games with Covcath.

 

Several NKY teams beat Louisville teams last year.

CAL, Eastern, Ballard and Jefferstown all lost to NKY teams.

 

Nobody is saying that NKY teams are incapable of beating any Louisville team. That's obviously and patently untrue. But when comparing the best of the two areas, Louisville comes out on top.

This has some elements of truth, but it's a vast oversimplification to state that county population is the only - or even the primary - factor. By that logic Fayette County with it's 310K population should produce top tier teams every year and Boyle County with only 29K would never win a title.

 

 

 

I don't know if we read the same thread, but the one I saw started with CCH fans or other fans implying that CCH was better than Trinity. Trinity fans and Louisville people replied that CCH had not recently played a team as strong as Trinity and were getting ahead of themselves. The first of which is true, but certainly isn't a knock on CCH's schedule.

 

Just out of curiosity how many times has CCH played a GCL team? Trinity has played quite a few over the years.

 

By GCL team, I'm guessing you mean the GCL South Division and not the GCL Co-Ed Division. CovCath has played a combined 30 games against Moeller, LaSalle, Elder, and Cincy St. X.

Louisville is 100% better at the top. That’s no question.

 

I think there could be arguments made both ways for the lower levels.

I’m not from Louisville. I’ve visited Louisville less than 10 times in my entire life. I’ll never believe the best team in NKY can defeat Trinity. I’ll pick Trinity to win every time.

 

The best team in NKY could defeat St. X and Male every now and then but St. X and Male would likely win those games more than losing them.

 

More often than not CAL and DeSales will defeat most of the teams in NKY regardless of class.

 

As for the rest of the Louisville teams there are plenty that would lose regularly to the best NKY has to offer.

 

I do find it ironic that everytime an NKY team/program of any classification has some success they think they can beat the best Louisville has to offer. That simply isn’t true. Highlands could never beat Trinity when they scrimmaged and while folks say they could beat a GCL team it seems that NKY took more losses against those GCL teams than Trinity.

You can pretty much take the top 3 in Louisville and separate them from everyone else. After that, is much more even. If you drop those top 3 and ranked the top 10-15 in Louisville and N. Ky. only, in most years it would be split evenly between the two areas.

Highlands beat Trinity in 2000 in a regular game and they beat Male in 1998 when Male won state. Those are the only two years where they showed themselves to be the best in the state.

Oracle, you stated the Trinity AD reached out to Covington Catholic about a possible match up in the future. Do you know what the Covington Catholic response was ?

My guess is the answer would be no. CovCath adds two district games next year (Boone County, Conner, Cooper, and Highlands), will probably continue to open with Ryle and close with Campbell, plays the rivalry game with Beechwood, and has a nice series going with Columbus (OH) St. Francis DeSales. If CovCath continues to play either LexCath (or in the LexCath St. Joe's bowl) we are down to only 1 open spot. I'm guessing the series with Kings (OH) will lapse, but CovCath may want to extend the series with Indianapolis (IN) Bishop Chatard or find another NKY/Cincy team to play for travelling purposes. This year alone CovCath travels to Columbus, Indianapolis, and Lexington. This is all supposition on my part, so take it with a grain of salt.

I think this is a testament to how much of a dumpster fire things are in Fayette County.
