Louisville always has top tier teams. NKY normally has top tear teams. Why does everyone besides people from NKY think that one of the NKY teams can top a Louisville team? Example.... CCH 2017 vs Anyone....

What big brother likes to admit that their little brother could take them in a fight...until after their little brother takes them in a fight?

 

The fact is, football in Jefferson County IS big brother to football around the majority of the state. At a population of 771,158 residents, Jefferson County has almost 1/5 of the entire population of the entire state of Kentucky. That being the case, they should damn well be able to beat most of the teams around the state, and if they can't, then that's egg on their face...not the rest of the state.

 

I think Jefferson County and Louisville high school football fans often lose sight of that.

 

Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties combined only have a combined population of 368,867 which is less than half the population of Jefferson County. The fact is, the schools in Jefferson County are bigger and have far more local students to draw from to make up their teams - ESPECIALLY the private schools. Also, in Louisville, the big and successful private schools draw players coming from across the river in Indiana, where the success just isn't there. In Northern Kentucky, that cross-state draw to their private schools just isn't there with hugely successful teams like LaSalle, Elder, Moeller, and Cincy St. X playing on the other side of the river.

 

It's a numbers game. If you can't do better with more, then you're doing something wrong. Sure, there's the random year where a 4A or 5A team from Northern Kentucky is able to field 22 players who are better than the 22 players from Jefferson County, but that's not the norm, nor should it be.

 

Still, I don't see many heavyweight boxing champs bragging year in and year out about how they could beat up on a lightweighter...or D1 colleges bragging on how their football team could have their way with a D1 team.

As this applies to Covington Catholic (I'm assuming @CCHColonels44 brought this topic up because of the flack that CCH was catching from Louisville area fans in the Ryle/CCH thread), frankly, I could give two craps about what the folks in the Louisville area think about our scheduling. We played in-state and out of state teams, over the years we've scheduled GCL teams as more times than any one of the teams in Jefferson County, and the fact remains, we won 5A state last year by putting a running clock on every team we played in Kentucky. That's what it took for Trinity's AD to finally reach out to us about a "potential future match up" between our teams. No offense to Trinity fans or any other fans, but forget those guys. Do what you want to do, Colonels. I don't need to beat a team from a school with over twice our enrollment to feel good about what we do.

BUT to think a NKY team could NEVER beat a team like Trinity is just not true. Highlands (in the Dale years) would usually get beat by the power cincy schools, but occasionally could pull off a win. This has some elements of truth, but it's a vast oversimplification to state that county population is the only - or even the primary - factor. By that logic Fayette County with it's 310K population should produce top tier teams every year and Boyle County with only 29K would never win a title.

I don't know if we read the same thread, but the one I saw started with CCH fans or other fans implying that CCH was better than Trinity. Trinity fans and Louisville people replied that CCH had not recently played a team as strong as Trinity and were getting ahead of themselves. The first of which is true, but certainly isn't a knock on CCH's schedule.

 

Just out of curiosity how many times has CCH played a GCL team? Trinity has played quite a few over the years.

The only reason CCH fans catch any "flack" from Louisville area fans is because they just assume CCH is as good (and in some cases folks have said better) than the big schools in Louisville simply because CCH is the best team in 5A. They bring that on themselves. Hopefully one day we'll get that match up (even better if we could get it regularly), because it would be the best football the state has to offer.

 

At the end of the day, stay in your (CCH) lane. You already own it, keep doing what you do.

Nobody thinks a NKY could NEVER beat a Louisville team. That's ridiculous. It just wouldn't happen often.

That's exactly what happened, and that's exactly what usually happens. Some up there have a complex, apparently.

Louisville is 100% better at the top. That’s no question.

If CovCath and Trinity had played 10 times last year, I think trinity wins 9 or 10.

 

X and CovCath May have been a good game last year.

All I know is last winter I had lunch at Penn Station and AJ Mayer was grabbing food. He told me he wished they played Trinity with a big smile and alot of confidence. CovCath would have gave Trinity a good game.

Several NKY teams beat Louisville teams last year.

CAL, Eastern, Ballard and Jefferstown all lost to NKY teams.

I’m not from Louisville. I’ve visited Louisville less than 10 times in my entire life. I’ll never believe the best team in NKY can defeat Trinity. I’ll pick Trinity to win every time.

 

The best team in NKY could defeat St. X and Male every now and then but St. X and Male would likely win those games more than losing them.

 

More often than not CAL and DeSales will defeat most of the teams in NKY regardless of class.

 

As for the rest of the Louisville teams there are plenty that would lose regularly to the best NKY has to offer.

Highlands could never beat Trinity when they scrimmaged and while folks say they could beat a GCL team it seems that NKY took more losses against those GCL teams than Trinity.
