This year looks a bit like last year in that there were some key player losses to graduation but there are still a good number of key returning players as well.

 

The strength of the team will be at the line of scrimmage. There will be good size, depth and experience. OT/DT Adam Derry leads the way going both ways. C Noah Fisher will be a 3 year starter and has made all star teams the previous two years. OT John Willis along with fellow linemen Duncan and Dayton Baugh are excellent returning starters. There is plenty of size to match up and hold their own with the big schools Beechwood will face in their always challenging schedule.

 

Beechwood never lacks for RB's. Logan Castleman is a rare for Beechwood 4 year starter who will lead the way at RB. He is the full package with speed, strength and toughness. JR Josh Derry is like one of those old school Beechwood RB's who would just as soon run through you than around you. JR Mitchell Corts is also talented and will get his share of carries as Beechwood rotates players to keep everyone fresh.

 

QB is a big hole to fill as Brayden Burch was the consummate field general. He was always in control and a very accurate passer. The discussion in this thread tells us Beechwood has a very talented possible replacement coming in. The good thing for whoever the starting QB turns out to be is there will be a lot of talent surrounding the new QB. That will keep the pressure off the new QB while he works his way into the offense. Key returning WR's are John Odom and Jake Sherron. There are several other talented players who will be working hard to show the coaches they deserve their share of playing time. There are a number of possibilities and there will be plenty of depth.

 

The key losses on defense are Mr. Everything Safety Daniel Mescher, shut down CB Elijah McKenney and CB Jake Massie. Beechwood has the talent to reload but losing those quality experienced starters will take time to get the quality back near last year's level. Castleman will start at strong safety and be a leader on the field for the new starters. Again, there are plenty of talented possible replacements and the competition for playing time will be strong. The LB corps will be led by Josh Derry and I expect Mitchell Corts to become a force on defense.

 

As mentioned in the thread, losing Daniel Mescher from the kicking game will be a blow. Mescher was a reliable field goal option the coaches had confidence in and could execute kickoff strategy very well also.

 

With the returning talent Beechwood has, they will most likely be a strong favorite to three-peat as 1A champion.

A lot of them have been. Several three year starters/contributors and Castleman has started since he was a freshman. If this group of seniors can win another title, they will join some of the Yeagle years seniors with three rings.

Josh Derry is going to have a MONSTER season. They will be a filthy 1-2 punch. Can’t wait to watch them this year.

Derry starts on defense as well. Neither will see much rest.

I see this season hindging on 2 key factors for this year’s Tigers. Factor 1- with a possible new Quarterback to Beechwood’s system: How will his transition be and how quickly can he pick up the playbook. Factor 2- with only 1 starting DB returning how will the secondary favor against teams with good QB’s? Beechwood has a litany of athletes to throw in and give Derry and Castleman breaks when it’s needed. They are so deep in every area except QB and DB. This should be a team that may struggle early against the Bigger competition but like always that schedule will get them ready for the time when it really matters- Playoffs. They should be the favorites come season’s end!!!! Go Tigers!!!!

At DB, John Odom and Hank Birindelli have experience, and Isiah Hudson has some experience also. For depth Mason Williams, Noah Howard, Blake Shepherd and Beau Sawyer all are solid and will be battling for positions. The Tigers have players in the program ready to step in.

This is going to be one of the better Beechwood teams in awhile IMO...and that is saying a lot.

Congrats to Dayton Baugh, and also to John Odom on a baseball offer from NKU.

 

This senior class now has 4 D1 athletes based on offers and commitments. That is a lot of talent at a 1A school. It also makes it clear that if you are a D1 quality athlete, you can get that scholarship at a 1A school. You don't need to go to the big school to get your scholarship.

 

This is going to be another challenging and fun season for Tigers fans.
