Do Cheerleaders Get Part of the Gate?

Featured Replies

That's just it! Even as recently as when I was in HS, the girls actually paid attention to the games. Nowadays, it seems to me that the games are just a big inconvenience for the cheerleaders. I find that to be inexcusable.

Gotcha...Don't really disagree with you on that.

I do think that cheerleaders should get some form of budget from the school they cheer for....

BTW....

Here is a little tidbit for these young girls of today...GUYS LOVE WHEN YOU KNOW SPORTS!!

To answer the question of why they should get some part of the gate...because that is what I think :thumb: Not talking masses of money just a small portion to help with expenses.

Has she asked for a refund? ;)

To answer the original question ... why should they?

They shouldn't. The football game is for football players, not cheerleaders, and I know when I was in high school the cheerleaders were just like fans, they watched the game and did their cheers but they were more interested in watching the game than getting the fans pumped.

At our school, the football gate and the basketball gates go into the general athletic account. This money then goes into the allotted budgets for each sport. Football gets the most (lets say 10 parts), each basketball team (boys and girls) gets part (7 parts each) and other sports get smaller amounts, including cheerleading (about 2 parts). The band is not an athletic team so they do not get any money.

We need to stick to the topic. If you want to go off topic please take it to PMs or the GD forum.

Why shouldn't the cheerleaders get a cut? If most of the money goes into the general athletic fund, It seems like they (the cheerleaders), are more involved in the football game receipts than the girls basketball team or any other team that benefits from football receipts. I have always thought it was pretty trashy for the cheerleaders to have to get out and wash cars or whatever to earn money to purchase uniforms etc. that stay with the school when they leave. I don't think any student athlete (and yes cheerleaders are some very good athletes) should have to raise money to save the school system a few bucks. Thats what gate receipts and tax dollars are for. The parents usually have to pay a bundle too. I know when my daughter cheered, we had to raise money for mats for them to practice on. Some school systems don't even provide safety equipment for them. At least ours didn't. Thats pitiful.

But true. How many cheerleaders actually know what's happening out on the field/court?

I can't recall exactly if it was last year or the year before, but one of the high schools playing on Saturday morning of the Sweet 16 had to use their middle school cheerleaders because some brainchild had the bright idea to schedule a statewide competition at the same time as the semifinal games, and naturally the varsity cheerleaders went to their competition rather than cheer for their team — which is their raison detre, isn't it?

You are joking right?
