Pre-Civil War in 1856 Senator Preston Brooks of South Carolina put Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts on the Senate Disabled List for several weeks when he smacked him several times on the head with his walking cane over what he perceived as an insult to one of his relatives and the South. Social media would have had a big time with that, lol. Actually Sumner spent years recovering. He only lasted one day, when he returned to the Senate in 1857 and made several trips to Europe for convalescence and treatment in 57 and 58. He did not give his next speech until mid 1859. The vitriol raised by his absence after the beating, from colleagues and foes, would make the worst of social media proud. Sorry for the history lesson. The period leading up to the war fascinates me almost as much as the war, itself. I wonder how social media would have handled President James Buchanan, who, by many accounts, was a bit effeminate. He never married. Several historians have argued that he was homosexual. Imagine Facebook handling that accusation, especially in that time frame.

I've got them queued on my DVR but am waiting until school ends to start watching.

I’ll finish it eventually but for some reason the past couple of months there has been a ton of Death Row, Suge Knight, Tupac and Biggie documentaries on. I’m not sure what is left to talk about concerning those two. Lol. I’ve overdosed on information on those two for now.
