Maybe he means because he played with Pete Rose and Davey Concepcion?

It sounds like Larkin's public interest in the job has rubbed some of the front office the wrong way.

Out of the list given on poll, I would pick J. Girardi. A manager w / experience plus championship experience would get the nod from me over any new, fist time manager. I like Larkin a lot, he is an old school / true Red but no experience in managing would make me question. We have witnessed how that can work out, or not. Larkin imo would be an excellent batting coach and/or asst. manager/bench coach.

One question in my mind would be is how much is the Reds cheap, incompetent front office willing to pay ? ... One gets what they pay for . I realize this is a small market club but I am a believer in "having to spend money to make money / wins". Take a chance or stay in the cellar.

An entire new front office is what is really needed.

According to Dick Williams in an interview during the rain delay tonight he said that Barry Larkin is "NOT" a candidate for the manager's position and that Barry is happy where he is and with what he is doing and feels he is making an impact in his current role. Billy Hatcher has been interviwed while in Miami and also John Fareel who is currently a scout. Riggleman will be interviewed soon.

According to Hal McCoy, Larkin turned down an interview request for the job. Seems telling if you ask me.

 

I think Farrell has to be the guy. Hatcher would be interesting. Hard pass on Benavides and Kelly. Would like to see them interview some candidates from outside the organization though.

I think we're going to want people who have a level of comfort in the dugout, preferably at the big-league level in their background."

The GM isn't going to publicly admit a guy turned them down. My guess is they approached him about interviewing, and Larkin realized the front-office wasn't serious about actually contending so he turned down the interview.

If the quote is accurate, why would either side waste time on an interview? Larkin does not meet their basic qualifications for the job.

The quote is probably accurate now that Larkin has taken his name off the list.
