Playing 2 Weeks in a Row

Featured Replies

My issue with this new format is the fact that you basically go two more weeks into the season before seeing just how good a team is against competion outside of their district. Use JC as an example. The JC fans are going crazy trying to prove they are a top 5 school in 3A. Many others in 3A have criticized their soft schedule. Now it is 2 extra weeks before they step outside of their little district box to prove who is right. In the past we would see situations where very competitive districts would sweep the other district in their region and create some really great matchups late in the playoffs. Those days are gone.

I agree too...but I bet there are some 4A coaches in Lex that like it.
Why would that be the case? They could beat up on District 8 in the first round instead of facing each other again.

Excellent points.
Who were the powers that be trying to please with this new system...its a joke!!!!!!!!??????????????? Honestly who does it help to play the same district schedule twice in almost consecutive order?????????????????

Blame the football coaches. It's their fault. They're the ones that wanted a "district tournament" like they have in other sports, and wanted out of Louisville as long as possible.

They also wanted six classes, in a state where the number of football playing high schools BARELY supports a decent four class system.

IMO, and I hope everyone reads this part, the state only messed up once. When so many football coaches begged for more classes because every team in soccer, baseball, and basketball make the postseason, they should have made football one class. Every team gets in the postseason, districts are aligned just like the above sports, and we have one state football champion, but everyone has a chance to win it, just like the other sports;) . Now, that would have been neat.

You are a little misinformed. The football coaches wanted 6 classes but nothing with playing in district. The board of control, KHSAA or whatever sited travel expenses as reason for playing in district. I dont like it but I can see them starting it next year with no district games week 10 and 11 but seems a little silly to start it this year when they SHOULD have realized there would be several teams playing 2 weeks in a row or twice in 3 weeks.

That theory doesnt work everywhere...it would be closer for LCA to travel to NKY than to Ashland(Raceland & Fairview) - I am sure there are other scenarios where the intra-District travel yields 2-hour routes...no big deal - hey it's HS football - who cares how far you have to travel - as long as you GET to play the game and keep on playing, right!?

If every thing works the way it should in our District then Valley should be playing Bullitt East again next week. Not two weeks in a row but twice in three weeks.

Additionally, Central will host Doss two weeks in a row if Bullitt East holds serve against North Bullitt.

If Corbin beats Garrard this week it will be a rematch the next week in the playoffs...then assuming they pull out back to back wins against the same opponent they will play either Casey or Wayne Co. the following week!!!

I'm seldom misinformed, and I'm not on this one. I know what the football coaches wanted, and they got the six classes. I wonder how hard it is to talk to guys about overcoming adversity, playing tough, etc., and then cry for more classes because "we can't compete".

This is terrible. I hate the new system.

I agree.
