Covington Catholic 67 Oldham County 28 (Sweet 16 - Semi Finals)

Double thread started... if a mod could please delete....Thanks.

I knew this one would be ugly.

All the hoopla and all the games and this tournament was always going to be Trinity or Scott County vs. Covington Catholic. Clearly the top teams...and it's not close.

And the #4 team lost to Cov Cath in their regional final.

By the way, that sounded negative but I didn't mean it that way. The state tournament is the BEST. I love all the games, but this season...Scott County vs. Trinity is the way it should be.

I call bull on that. It is a shame those two played in round one but I sure don't think those two are clearly the top 2 in the state.

Sure... but this Sweet 16 like many has been very exciting, and while being in the finals and crowned the champs is a great great honor, this tourney means so much more to so many people. Not one of those kids will ever forget stepping foot onto the Rupp Arena floor not to mention all the joy that it brings to their families, the fans, the students sections, and every Ky High School basketball junkie young and old...and I don't think that this is something that can be so easily downplayed.

Long live the Sweet 16 - The Greatest Show in Hoops!

I meant, the way the draw went...the best championship game was going to be the winner of that game vs. CovCath.

I honestly believe these are the two best teams in the state, with Trinity being right there with them.

Covington Cath beat Fern Creek last night, but they each have a win against each other and I do think FC matches up well against CC. The Tigers are not that far back from any of those other 3 being mentioned. Aside for that stretch run in the 2nd Q last night which resulted in a 14 point halftime lead, the rest of the way was a battle (an ugly one, but pretty evenly matched).

The difference in their December match-up and Friday night was CJ Frederick. He was outstanding. He is a great player, but he was shooting lights out and without that effort the game could have been much different. It was a good defensive game aside from not being able to stop CJ. Plus the December game the refs let them play and last night the refs were horrible calling way too many touch fouls. They were bad in both directions, but in particular Fern Creek had so many baffling calls against them.

I just think that Fern Creek/Covington Catholic are not that far apart as some seem to be making it out. I would bet the staff at Covington Catholic was glad to see the clock ran out without more time left to play.

And the #4 team lost to Cov Cath in their regional final.

You could put Ballard and LCA right with those guys.

This was the first time a team failed to reach 30 in a state semifinal since Oldham Co scored 29 against Seneca in 1963.

1946 was the last time a team scored 28 (or less) in the semis.
